Make Your Home A Sanctuary
Our health and fitness ambassador Alice Liveing doesn’t just know all things sports – she’s also a big believer in mindfulness, and taking time out of a busy schedule for yourself. During our recent workout shoot, we caught up with Alice to ask her for some top hacks on creating a sanctuary in our own space, to make learning to unwind a little easier.
So here’s to 2019 and taking more time for ourselves, putting our phones down at the end of the day, and starting the morning off with a gentle stretch (rather than a screeching alarm). Read on for Alice’s words of wisdom – and be good to yourself this new year.
Start the day with a stretch workout
Not a morning person? Wake yourself up a little with a morning stretch. You can do it anywhere, anytime: all you need's a yoga mat. Put on some calming music, and energize yourself for the day ahead.
Use accessories to add color
Colors can change your mood: I’m a huge fan of having lots of cushions on my sofa and bed to add pops of color to my space. Even though it drives my boyfriend mad!
Stock up on faux plants
One way I like to make my home a sanctuary is by using faux plants. It’s so nice to bring natural style indoors, and they’re way easier to take care of than real plants.
Surround yourself with scented candles
I absolutely love candles: every time I walk through my front door I have to light one. It creates a very calming environment, and really helps me switch off.
Storage is key
A tidy space is a tidy mind. I’m a huge fan of having lots of storage everywhere. This means everything has a place and stays really organized, so I don’t feel stressed when I come through the door and everything’s a mess.
Face mask and chill
Another part of my self-care routine is when I remove my makeup in the evening. I always come in, put on a comfy sweater and go for a double cleanse to make sure I get everything off my face. If I really want to treat myself, I put on a mask that I leave on for a couple of minutes to really unwind.
Switch the world off and relax
When I want to relax, one of my favorite things to do is make myself a peppermint tea, curl up on a chair, listen to a podcast and just switch off for 10 minutes.
Cut down on screen time
After being on my phone all day it’s so important to have some time away from my screen. So I just have 10 minutes of doing nothing so I can completely relax.
