What is lambswool?

Lambswool is a soft, extra-fine wool sheared from the fleece of young sheep. Often used in cold-weather clothing and accessories, it’s highly prized for its lightweight feel and excellent insulating properties. Across knitwear, scarves and accessories, lambswool is an ideal fabric choice for cosy yet breathable garments —  perfect for all autumn/winter outfits.

The benefits of lambswool

  • Its temperature regulating, with the hollow fibres allowing air to circulate and maintain your body temperature

  • Lambswool is super soft and breathable. Great for all-day wear

  • It contains natural elasticity, allowing the jumper to retain its shape and durability

Our lambswool jumpers

How to style lambswool knitwear

Let’s start simple. Jeans are a no-brainer for pairing your knitwear with. Skinny, wide leg, loose fit — any cut will complement your jumper perfectly for a cosy yet refined look. Next up: shoes. The style you reach for depends on the vibe you’re going for. Loafers and boots add a polished finish, making them perfect for smart-casual or office-ready looks. Want to keep the look low-key? Stick with your go-to trainers. Whichever option you choose, don’t forget to accessorise with a scarf or belt to pull it all together!

How to care for your lambswool clothing

Taking extra care of your lambswool clothing will help maintain its softness, warmth and durability. Here are some tips:

1. Hand wash or gentle machine wash

For best use, hand wash our lambswool knits using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. If you’re using a washing machine, select the wool or delicate cycle

2. Use a wool-friendly detergent

Choose a gentle, wool-specific detergent to help keep the fibres soft and strong. Also, try to avoid any harsh chemicals that can damage the fabric

3. Remove pills gently

Over time, the wool may develop small pills (clumps of wool that appear loose on the surface of the fabric). Use a fabric shaver or small scissors to remove and maintain a smooth surface

FAQs

Is lambswool itchy?

  • Lambswool is generally known to be non-itchy due to its gentle, smooth surface. However, in some cases, it can cause irritation to those with sensitive skin. For best wear, layer our knitwear over a T-shirt or vest.

What is the difference between lambswool and sheep’s wool?

  • Although they both come from sheep, lambswool and sheep’s wool each offer distinct qualities. Lambswool is typically sourced from a lamb’s first shearing and is exceptionally soft and smooth — making it ideal for close-to-skin items such as scarves and knitwear. On the other hand, sheepswool, (taken from adult sheep) is made with a tougher fibre composition that’s more suited to heavy-duty outerwear and blankets.
