What is lambswool?

Lambswool is a soft, extra-fine wool sheared from the fleece of young sheep. Often used in high-quality clothing and accessories, it’s highly prized in the fashion industry for its lightweight feel and excellent insulating properties. From knitwear to scarves and accessories, it’s an affluent fabric choice for cosy yet breathable garments – perfect for your autumn/winter outfits.

The benefits of lambswool

  • Temperature regulating – the hollow fibres allow air to circulate which helps to regulate your body temperature

  • Lambswool is super soft and breathable, great for all day wear.

  • The natural elasticity in the fabric allows it to retain it’s shape and durability

How to care for lambswool clothing

Taking extra care for your lambswool clothing will help maintain its softness, warmth and durability. Here are our top three tips:

  1. Hand wash or gentle machine wash

For best use, hand wash our lambswool knits using lukewarm water and a mild detergent. If you’re using a washine machine, select the wool or delicate cycle.

  1. Use a wool-friendly detergent

Choose a gentle, wool-specific detergent to help keep the fibres soft and strong. Also to avoid any harsh chemicals that can damage the fabric.

  1. Remove pills gently

Over time, the wool may develop small pills – loose clumps of wool that appeal loose on the surface of the fabric. Use a fabric shaver or small scissors to maintain a smooth surface.

How to style our lambswool knitwear

The eptiome of autumnal dressing, our knitwear can be paired with your go-to jeans for a casual work to weekend outfit. From wide leg to straight and the trending barrel leg look – our jumpers and cardigans are guaranteed to compliment any style.

The eclectic grandpa trend is having a major moment this season. Take cues from our latest Primark Presents Kem collection and pair the lambswool cardigan with smart trousers or chinos for a laidback, yet polished appeal.

FAQs

Is lambswool itchy?

  • Lambswool is generally non-itchy due to it’s gentle, smooth fabric. However in some cases, it can cause irritation to those with sensitive skin. For best wear, layer our cardigans or knits over a T-shirt or vest.

What is the difference between lambswool and sheepswool?

  • Although they both come from sheep, lambswool and sheepswool each offer distinct qualities. Lambswool is typically sourced from a lamb’s first shearing and is exceptionally soft and smooth which makes it ideal for close-to-skin items such as scarves and knitwear. On the other hand, sheepswool—taken from adult sheep—is coarser and thicker, with a tougher fiber composition suited for heavy-duty items like outerwear and blankets.
