Make Your Home a Wellbeing Sanctuary

Our health and fitness ambassador Alice Liveing doesn’t just know all things sport, she’s also a big believer in mindfulness, and taking time out of a busy schedule to make time for self care.

During our recent workout shoot, we caught up with Alice to ask her for some top tips on creating a sanctuary within our own home, so that learning to unwind can be that little bit easier.

So here’s to 2019 and taking more time for ourselves, putting our phones down at the end of the day, and starting the morning off with a gentle home workout, rather than a screeching alarm. Read on for Alice’s words of wisdom, and be good to yourself this new year.

Start the day with a home workout

If you’re not a morning person, wake yourself up a little with a morning stretch. These can be done anywhere, anytime and all you need is a yoga mat. Put on some calming music, and energise yourself for the day ahead.

Add colour through accessories

Colours can change your mood and I’m a huge fan of having lots of cushions on my sofa and bed to add pops of colour to my home. Even though it drives my boyfriend mad!

Create a home spa with faux plants

One way I like to make my home a sanctuary, is by using faux plants. It’s so nice to bring a bit of nature indoors, and they’re way easier to look after than real plants.

Add scented candles to aid mindfulness

I absolutely love candles as well, and every time I walk through my front door I have to light one. It makes for a very calming environment, and really helps me to switch off.

Storage is key

A tidy space equals a tidy mind, and I’m a huge fan of having loads of storage everywhere. This means everything has a place and everything stays really organised, so I don’t feel stressed when I come through the door and everything’s a mess.

Practice self care with a face mask

Another part of my self care routine is when I remove my make-up in the evening. I always come in, put on a comfy women’s knitted jumper and go for a double cleanse to make sure I get everything off my face. If I really want to treat myself, I put on a mask that I leave on for a couple of minutes to really unwind.

My fave relaxation technique

When I want to relax, one of my favourite things to do is make myself a peppermint tea, curl up on a chair, listen to a podcast and just switch off for 10 minutes.

Cut down on screen time

After being on my phone all day it’s so important to have some time away from my screen, so I just have 10 minutes of doing nothing so that I can completely relax.
