Top Tips for Working Remotely

Even if you’re stuck at home, it’s important to let some fresh air in. Open a window or enjoy lunch from your garden, balcony or by your local park.

Establishing a daily routine like a morning walk or a quick yoga sesh can help us clear our mind, making us more productive during the day!

Exercising is important not only for our body but also our mental wellbeing. There’s plenty of home fitness equipment you can get, like barbells, skipping ropes or kettlebells, but there’s plenty of exercises that require no equipment too. Try yoga, pilates or follow an exercise routine on YouTube.

Listening to music is a great way to relax and wind down. While you’re tapping away at your laptop, treat yourself to some sweet tunes. Listen to your fave album or if you prefer chatter then use this time to tick some podcasts off that list of recommendations your friends keep giving you. One of the benefits of working remotely is that you’re finally in charge of the tunes!

One healthy habit you should definitely not forget about is taking a nice lunch break. Working from home sometimes means we get stuck in front of our laptop. But making space for lunch gives you a well deserved screen break, making you more productive in the afternoon!

What Not to Do While Working Remotely

Don’t work from your bed. As tempting as it may be to prop yourself up with those plump cushions while wrapped up in your duvet, your bed should be reserved for sleeping. It’s important to associate different rooms with different tasks for maximum productivity and relaxation.

For your own mental wellbeing, your bedroom should only be reserved for relaxation. So, slip into your fleece pyjamas once you're done with work and then get all cosied up under the duvet! It’ll feel extra special!

It goes without saying that you should not stay in your comfy pyjamas all day. Trust us, we get it. Our fleece pyjamas are our best friends too. But changing into comfortable daywear or women’s workwear will help you to get into work mode. Leave your PJs as the treat they are for the evening.

Working from home means we have a few distractions. Is it our neighbours? Or is it that pile of dishes stacking up? Being at home means you can stay on top of your household game. No need to rush through your chores in the evening, you can put a wash on mid-day and hang those clothes to dry in sunshine – it’s the small things! But it can be easy to get distracted by day-to-day tasks when deadlines are looming, so set times throughout the day to complete your chores instead. Why not try after breakfast and before lunch?

Finally, nothing beats the distraction of our phones. Yes, it’s good to check in on friends and family, but have you been scrolling through Insta for… how long now?!

Limit your phone usage throughout the day by placing it in a separate room as part of your morning routine. That viral meme will still be there when you get back. If you

need to stay alert for particular messages, simply turn off all non-essential notifications!
