Our Commitment to Accessibility

Primark is committed to making our digital products and services accessible, in accordance with the EAA and its implementation under Irish law through the European Union (Accessibility Requirements of Products and Services) Regulations 2023.

We aim to ensure that people with disabilities can access and use our various platforms independently and are committed to providing an accessible online experience for all our users, to meet the needs of the broadest possible audience and conform with established accessibility standards. (References to ‘Primark’ include all group companies subject to the EEA) This statement has been prepared to inform users about the accessibility of our service, including its alignment with relevant legal and technical standards. It applies to our website covered by the EAA and respective domestic transposition. While all sections of our website may not be fully accessible or conformant with current regulations, they are being reviewed for future improvements.

Description of the Service and Measures to Support Accessibility

Primark provides online site to see and check availability of products in our stores. Our service is delivered through an interface that supports accessibility by:   

  • Simple navigation: Logical layouts with consistent headings, landmarks, and menus   

  • Keyboard accessibility: Most functions that can be operated via keyboard 

  • Error notifications: Clear and descriptive error messages to guide users in resolving issues. 

We are continuously striving to improve our accessibility by providing: 

  • Ongoing accessibility training: Our team receives regular training on accessibility best practices, ensuring employees have the skills required to keep our services inclusive and conformant with current standards.  

  • Regular testing: We continually test our services against the latest accessibility guidelines, including WCAG and EN 301 549, and make necessary updates to sustain accessibility.  

  • Operable interface: The service is partially navigable by keyboard and works with assistive technologies.  

  • Understandable design: Our interface uses clear and simple language, avoids unnecessary complexity.

Additionally, we leverage an industry-leading digital accessibility solution, Level Access, to maintain and improve conformance with accessibility standards. Through our collaboration with Level Access, we have adopted the following practices to enhance every user’s experience:  

  • Bi-yearly audits: We work with level access to conduct manual audit on our website so we can benchmark ourselves and plan remediations in our development cycles  

  • Monitoring: Automated conformance scans at regularly scheduled intervals.  

  • CI/CD testing: Testing for accessibility errors in code during the development pipeline.  

  • Record keeping: Internal reporting on accessibility conformance.   

Conformance Status

The portions of our website covered by the European Accessibility Act observe the following standards:  

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA  

  • EN 301 549 

While we aim to ensure accessibility for all users, some limitations may exist. If you experience any issues, please let us know, and we will work to provide an alternative solution.  

Limitations and Exceptions 

We know from several accessibility assessments that some parts of Primark.com are not fully accessible. 

These aspects include: 

  • Some images that are intended for decorative purposes are not implemented in such a way that assistive technologies can ignore them. 

  • Alt text for product images is being improved. 

  • Some video content may not have a transcript or subtitles available. 

  • Some headings may not form a hierarchical structure on the page. 

  • Some features may not be fully supported by screen reader assistive technology. 

  • Some features or content may be affected when text is enlarged to 200% 

  • You may not be able to access all content by using the keyboard alone. 

  • Some text may not reflow in a single column when you change the size of the browser window or use certain levels of magnification.  

  • Some older documents (PDF, PowerPoint, Word) are not fully accessible to screen reader software.  

  • Some content or third-party integrations may not fully comply with accessibility standards.
