Trend Focus: Zen Bathroom
With winter hanging around longer than we care for, we’re dreaming of sunnier climes… ‘dreaming’ being the operative word. While depictions of sun-drenched bliss present themselves at seemingly every advertisement opportunity, we’re still at our desks, imagining the vit D we could be soaking up in, say, Thailand. Since we can’t magically teleport, we’ve thought of the next best thing – transforming our homes into a den of complete zen.
Given our vacay dismay, our most recent obsession is with all things exotic, leafy, lush, and green. Upholding minimalist vibes, and a less-is-more approach, zen is all about living life at a slower pace, and relaxing. So what better place to start, than in the bathroom? Light some candles, take a dip in the tub, and transport your mind to simpler times… pinch us before we drift off!
You’ll notice the fresh colour scheme, inspiring quotes and wall art, and oodles of candles. Our white tea candle range has to be one of our ultimate faves, evoking the heady scent of far eastern aromatics, and exotic tea infusions (but we’ll still take that builder’s tea and a custard cream, thanks).
As for print direction, a gorgeous flourishing palm motif will hopefully quell your desire for palm tree locations… or at least make them more achievable, and less expensive! The vibrant green will also do wonders for your mood. Its centrality on the colour spectrum makes it is the most balanced colour, which means the soothing hue requires the least amount of effort to be processed visually. This little fact has given green a reputation as a ‘restful’ colour, that’s easy on the eyes.
We’re all about making a conscious effort to keep our minds and bodies healthy. Although the ‘new year, new you’ mantra is wearing thinner than our favourite winter warmers, as the February chill takes its sweet time to dissipate. Pep-up your positivity with a few quotes, plaques, and memos. We swear by our simple-yet-effective wall art. This canvas three pack is the perfect reminder, and sits back against our zen trend perfectly. For a bit of mind maintenance and perspective, we’d definitely recommend them… after all, they’re MUCH cheaper than a yoga retreat!
In defence of clutter, Einstein may have drawn parallels between an empty workspace and an empty mind, but we’re down with a bit of ‘me time’, and to us that means suitably empty spaces and cleanliness. Ultimately, zen is all about pushing the annual spring clean one step further: cleansing your outlook, as well as your home.
