Beside the Seaside
Did you think we were done celebrating summer in all its gloriousness? Never! Just weeks after we filled your little ones’ wardrobes for the beginning of the sunny season, Penneys has an all-new trend for high summer. Our kidswear is beach-ready, pool party-ready, picnic-ready…you’re sorted!
Our latest kidswear trend is called Tropicalia, and to us that means two things – super-bright colours and super-fun prints. Let’s get started with something for the tiniest members of the family. Come on, could you really walk past our tiny cherry-print playsuit in a store and not pick it up? Nope, us neither! Look out for blue, green and coral pink as our leading colours, for boys and girls. Our dinky board shorts are just as bright as their little faces will be when you pull around the corner and the sea appears on the horizon.
Fashion T-shirt and board short set €7
For 2-7 year-olds, there’s plenty of choice too, with a focus on Hawaiian and botanical prints to boost the tropical vibe. When choosing what to pair with our printed T-shirts and shell blouses, funky floral or crochet-hemmed shorts are perfect. Our pieces coordinate with ease, which will make packing a doddle – one playsuit styled with different tops will suit any occasion! Finish off with our floral or strappy flip-flops, which hang on to their heels to help avoid any slips and trips!
Shell top €5, crochet hem short €9
T-shirt €1.90, shorts €5
We know the older kids will be looking for something equally on-trend (does ‘but mum, everyone has one’ sound familiar?). So, we’ve gone all-out with big, bold florals, and faded ombre prints. A sundress is a classic that will see her from morning to evening, and you can’t go wrong with a trademark surfer look – palm prints and a straw sunhat are all you need.
Vest €6, shorts €10, trilby €4
Dress €4.50, sunglasses €1.50, sandals €4
Of course, we haven’t forgotten accessories! Our sunglasses go from sleek to novelty, catering to every little fashionista’s taste, while our tasselled bags are ideal for carrying toys and snacks. How about some crochet espadrilles for extra fashion brownie points? You’ll find flip-flops, canvas shoes and boat shoes all in-store now too.
Summer holidays may mean popping ears at 30,000 feet and several novelty toys they’ll never play with again, but don’t fret! A capsule wardrobe revolving around some key pieces and staple colours will see you all the way from first day exploring your destination, to the last night overlooking the sea – it will all be worth it!
