LCM Trend Report- Tailoring
London Collection Men’s is the place to see and be seen, a key moment in any fashionista’s calendar. Whilst fashion is shown on the catwalks and presentations, it’s style that’s seen on the streets. We worked with fashion photographer Holly McGlynn to capture the best looks around, round them up and compile neatly into trend reports just for you. For this report we look at how to modernise and refresh the suit, a classic menswear staple.
A suit in a sense is like a black dress, a wardrobe essential yet one that shouldn't be reserved just for special occasions. There are ways to adapt suiting into everyday attire without looking too dressed up or dressed down. Tailoring doesn't have to be boring, bland or beige. There’s multiple ways to inject energy into this classic garment. One way to do so would be to add a dash of colour, consider bold or bright, instantly adding a shade of cool. On the construction side, light unlined jackets and trousers help to remove the stuffiness and stiffness so often associated with suiting.
Other ways to opt into this look would be to refresh and modernise by adding casual touches here and there, such as a crisp t-shirt worn under an open blazer and trainers rather than shoes. Another great way to achieve paired down sharpness is by wearing a tie with a polo shirt, slim cut ties are modern and add that touch of smartness. On the accessories front why not think about rounding off the look with an item that's distinctive yet not too loud or brash. Such as sunglasses, a baseball cap or badges on the lapel, all of the above display personality; a keynote is to not over do it.
