Keep your hat on
Trend Report: Smart hats
Hats instantly add to an outfit helping to smarten up, like a fedora with a T-shirt and trousers or on the other hand helping to dress down a sharp look like a suit with a fitted cap. Recently we’ve seen the beanie trend, the bucket and the fitted/snapbacks have reigned supreme on the crowns of many men’s heads! Yet now we are seeing the emergence of smarter options taking command and control.
From boaters to bowlers, fedoras to trilbies, smart hats have been adopted into the casual realm. What once used to be worn on occasions from weddings or to the theatre are now worn in everyday life and paired with a casual look.
Hats aren’t always purposeful, yes the beanie keeps us warm in winter and the snapback can be used to shield the sun but they too are props and have been worn and embraced across the board. It’s no longer a rare sight to see a snapback in the winter and a beanie in the summer and that’s the way smarter options are moving in. Once the look has been embraced and you’re comfortable with it you’ll soon find your confidence and that one hat is not enough!
Emerging from the street and often written off as hipster attire, smarter hats can often be seen as costume and nothing else. Yet in the past few seasons there’s been an emergence of structured headwear appearing on the catwalks and moving into the high fashion arena. With that more and more men are daring to wear.

Smart hats are a perfect prop to dress up a casual outfit, think a button down long sleeve with a trilby and some slim fitting dark wash jeans. Finished off with a nice pair of wingtip brogues. For a sleeker look a roll neck with a fedora, slightly cropped trousers and some loafers.
