Denim Details: London Fashion Week
As London Fashion Week draws to a close, we look at the best street style trends to emerge as denim gains pace on the street.
A range of mid blue and bold blue casts dominated for the most commercial denim items, such as dungarees and skinny jeans, which were often teamed with paler chambrays or pieced and patched denim constructions to create a head-to-toe denim look.
American 1970s influences, that are currently emerging on the catwalks, have already landed on the street, but with a modern twist. The wide-leg flare was a favoured silhouette for both high-waisted jeans and dungarees, worn with leopard print blouses and pastel frock coats, adding a softer, more feminine touch to this utilitarian look.
Seventies styling also played a part for accessories and footwear with printed silk scarves worn as neckerchiefs, platformed sandals teamed with socks and chunky, tan waist belts cinching in jeans.
Updates saw denim dresses worn open as a layering item, topping leather skirts and shirt combos and finished off with trainers – tapping into the never-ending sports fusion looks. Skinny jeans were kept clean, moving way from the destroyed look of late, in bold indigo and vintage washes, teamed with checked shirts, fur bombers and pieced denim coats.
