Day in the life: Lauren Arthurs
When Lauren Arthurs isn't articulating fashionable thoughts on her blog, she's steady keeping it stylish with street style inspo for days. So, naturally, the blogging babe was a clear winner to kick-off our London Fashion Week Day in the Life coverage.
If you've ever wondered what goes into fashion week preparation, the magic recipe for winning over the photographer's lens, and how fashion's insiders tackle one of the busiest weeks in their stylish calendars, you're in the right place...
First up, die-hard dedication is a definite prerequisite for LFW lovers. Flying over from Cork to get her fashion fix, Lauren had to get seriously sorted beforehand, afterall she wouldn't have the luxury of popping home quickly to fix a faux pas.
We love a bit of gossip, and when we heard London Fashion Week would no longer be gracing the quaint courtyard surroundings of Somerset House, and would instead be relocating to an industrial setting in Soho, we wanted to know what our faves thought. Lauren said of the new Brewer Street hub: "I wasn’t too sure when I found out; I love Somerset house so much. But the British Fashion Council have done an amazing job, and it looks fabulous! It’s a great central location too, perfect for everyone commuting."
Perpetual perfection can be a tough job, but Miss Arthurs nails it every time - never failing to aesthetically please. Naturally, we wanted to know how someone so fabulous organises their wardrobe for LFW: "I always start by window shopping, browsing, and taking snaps in-store of pieces I like. After a day or so of brainstorming and Pinterest snooping, I head back in-store and put together a look that I have mentally created. And sometimes, I just spot something I love straight away!" That's some impressive sartorial organisation skills, huh?
With such dedication to prep and wear, we were dying to know what informed Lauren's outfit today: "Khaki green is my favourite colour this season, so when I spotted this coat in my local Penneys I had to have it! It’s the perfect statement piece, and keeps me nice and warm between shows. These shoes are also killer! They look so amazing teamed with this coat - very Victoria Beckham-inspired."
Between hitting-up her favourite stores (Primark, obvs), sitting for shows and getting papped for street style, Lauren's LFW experience is always a whirlwind. The brunette beauty, however, takes it all in her stylish stride: "Fashion week morning is like waking up on Christmas day! I am always so excited and normally it’s a manic rush. I get myself ready, eat a yummy hotel breakfast, and grab a quick coffee to drink on my way to the shows. It’s always busy, but it’s my favourite week of the year!"
What are your top three fashion week handbag saviours?
Since we have the chance, we thought it would only be right to get the goss on a pro's fashion week must-haves.
1. Lipstick! Between the endless coffees (to keep me going!), chatting to press, and smiling for street style pics, I'm always reapplying.
2. Portable charger. I need a full battery at all times.
3. Compact mirror. For hair & makeup touch-ups throughout the day.
Sixty seconds, seven questions, one answer. Do you agree with Lauren's quick-fire responses?
Fashion Week flats or high fashion heels? Heels for shows and photos, flats for commuting and lunching.
S/S or A/W season? AW.
NYFW, LFW, MFW, or PFW? LFW and NYFW.
Bright and early (morning shows) or fashionably late (evening shows)? Bright and early. I love kick-starting the day early, and finishing off with a nice meal and cocktails.
Business breakfasts or post-show parties? Business breakfasts.
Trend watch: sidewalks or catwalks? Sidewalks. As much as I love catwalk shows, people watching is my favourite hobby.
Fashion Week survival top tip? Carry flats with you (heels all day in central London is not easy) and dress as comfortably/weather-appropriate as possible.
