The ReMark Primark

The Re:Mark: Commuter Cardio

I read this week that we spend 350 hours a year getting to and from work. That's one hell of a commute. Well if we’re going to spend all of that time racing to and from the office we might as well look good while we’re doing it! Enter Athleisure.

The ReMark Primark

Personally I have an hour and a half commute each way, every day. To begin with it was life changing - early start, late home, and meeting friends in town after work became a race against time to get to them before dinner was served. Two years in though and I've pretty much got it sussed. Don't lie in for those extra 10 minutes - it's just not worth it. Don't agree to meet friends at an unrealistic time and don’t stay too late at the office - it's all about a good work/life balance after all!

Catching the bus to the tube, having to change to connecting tube lines, and reaching the train station in good time is my daily morning cardio. Sometimes it's a slow and steady marathon, but others it’s most definitely a sprint to the finish line!

With the Olympics starting this week in Rio, it seems everyone’s got sport and exercise on their mind. Whether you’re a regular pavement runner, social spinner, or simply like to support sport from a far, the good news is - you don't have to be an Olympic athlete to be a winner in the style stakes.

'Athleisure' and 'sports luxe' have been buzz words from the catwalks for a couple of years now, but while it shows no signs of slowing down, it is only now that the high street seems to be fully embracing this streetwear trend.

If you like to look like you've just hit the gym, when actually the only thing you’ve accomplished that morning is brunch, then this is the look for you. We have LA to thank for making gymwear acceptable brunch attire – praise be to the Angelinos!

High waisted leggings, crop top and tracksuit tops inundate the celebrity columns and the head-to-toe tonal dressing effect is clear to see. Who would have thought a plain khaki or cream hoody, matched back with slim joggers would look so chic?

Here at Primark we're heavily celebrating this look. For menswear it’s all about layering and making your athleisure look part of your lifestyle rather than something you only wear to work out. Take style notes from Lee Elias as he tells us how he makes the smooth transition from workwear to streetwear – all while hitting the gym in between.

As we race into the new season, 90s vibes continue to dominate for womenswear and the block-coloured tracksuit makes a comeback, but it’s not for the faint hearted. Sporty Spice eat your heart out! Allow Jodie Jones to talk you through the only way to wear sports attire this season. And lets not forget the little champions in your life. Sports vibes are heavily influencing kidswear too with lycra leggings and slogan emblazoned vests flying off the shelves as we speak.

It’s never been cooler to look like your just seconds away from your next work out, without having to raise you heart rate. Having recently become obsessed with spinning, athleisure is already preaching to the converted. Anyone who knows me will tell you this is pretty much how I dress most weekends as I trek from the gym, straight to brunch and out for the rest of the day. That being said the commute is enough to get my blood pumping in the morning already; add a double shot latte into the mix and I’m on track for a winning day head.
