Find your perfect fit...

Straps, wires, hooks, fastenings… no, we are not discussing medieval torture contraptions, we’re talking bras. Yes, shockingly the same vocabulary is eerily apt, but vocab-crossover aside, a bra should NEVER resemble torture!

Primark Lingerie

Since no two body types, shapes, or sizes are the same, finding the perfect bra can seem like an endless task. Between searching for the most supportive, comfortable, stylish, AND affordable options, it's easy to hit a brick wall. And then there's the sheer amount of choice: While your best friend is bigging-up balconettes, your sister is swearing by strapless, but you're stuck in the only bra that seems to work for you: a sports bra.

Stress be gone! We’ve got your back (and cups, and straps…). Check out our fool proof guide, designed to aid in the discovery of that all-too-elusive perfect-fitting bra. And, to give us a helping hand, we’ve enlisted our team of expert lingerie buyers and designers to share their expertise.

Cup size

Let’s confess. We all think we know what size we are – we were that size way back when we bought our last bra. But if you’re definitely, 100%, a 34D, why on earth is there a gaping void of contradiction between your breasts and the bra in question?

On the flip side, there’s the classic ‘four-boob mishap’. No, you haven’t magically grown overnight… We hate to break it to you: your bra is just too small. That suffocating feeling isn’t comfortable. So free yourself, go up a cup size, and unleash the extra boobs – rejoice in a return to simpler times, when you only had two to think about.

Primark

Our expert says: "If your bra cups are too big, you're effectively forfeiting all of its intended qualities. Aside from the obvious gaping along the top line of the cup, you'll also feel less supported, and the back may well ride up too, as there is nothing to keep it in place."

Our expert says: "If cup capacity is too small, you risk seriously damaging your breast tissue. The underwire, which should sit under the natural curve of your breast, will continually dig into your side throughout the day. You may also notice bulging and discomfort along the wings (side panel)."

Back fastening

If you’re desperately anticipating feelings of sweet freedom at day’s end, when you can finally release yourself from the confines of your bra, we’ve got a newsflash for you: it’s NOT okay for your bra to be super uncomfortable. Whether the back is too tight, or too loose, you’ve got problems.

Primark

Our expert says: "If the back of your bra is riding up, it’s because it’s too loose. If there is nothing to anchor and secure the back, the cups will not be supportive. This issue can usually be rectified by going down a back size."

Our expert says: "If the back is too tight, you’ll notice narrowing around the wings and back. This is due to over-stretching, and can lead to increased pressure around the cups and shoulders."

Straps

Don’t let loose straps plague you. It’s an unnecessary – and not to mention extremely irritating – event that can be quickly remedied by simply adjusting the straps. The bra will essentially be redundant if all aspects aren’t as they should be, so why on earth wear one if it’s not working hard for you?!

Primark

Our expert says: "The perfectly adjusted strap should allow you to comfortably place a single finger underneath it, without the need to wrestle it away from your skin. Suitably-adjusted straps are the final element to check off."

Our expert says: "When bra straps are too loose, not only will they fall down, you’ll probably notice the cups gaping. Providing you're in the right size, a quick adjustment will rectify the issue."
