The Halloween-Ready Edit

Want to look suitably spooky without totally scaring everyone off this Halloween? Then you need an outfit that’s stylish and deadly in equal measures. Let fashion journalist and founder of lifestyle platform The Lucy Edit show you the way...
When it comes to your wardrobe, there’s no better time to turn heads and make jaws drop than Halloween. But that’s no excuse to totally lose your style edge, ladies. Sure a little harmless fancy dress is fun, but perfecting a Halloween look that’s costume-worthy yet packs a serious fashion-punch is always high on the agenda. So step away from the pumpkin suit and slasher-flick fake blood, it’s time to think more chic, less freak. Whether it’s a scary house party or spooky dinner date, you’ll soon be the ruling fright night fashionista.
A potent hit of lace is a great place to start for Victoriana vamp and zombie corpse bride vibes. Make a beeline for lacy frocks, tops, and skirts and blend with bits you already own – over-the-knee boots, leather jeggings and high collared bodies will work wonders. Then, Halloween-ify your get-up with a few harrowing extras. Try a bat mask or killer cat ears, throw in some crucifix earrings and slick on a red mani to be well on your way to Halloween couture. Heavily-kohled eyes, are a must. Smudge liner on the lash line, fill lids with sultry shades and blend before coating lashes with buckets of mascara.
Satisfy any inner Morticia Addams alter-ego by zoning in on some bewitching velvet. Go for graveyard shades, like black or grey, then fake a chalk-white complexion by painting contour cream all over your face. Sure to scare off even the hardiest trick or treat-ers! Bypass the broomstick and add fierce witchy talons, a choker and peaked hat for spellbound perfection. Top with just-bitten crimson lips (plunge for cauldron-black if you dare) and carry a solo red rose to be instantly insta-ready.
If intergalactic cyber goth is more your thing then snap up fun, futuristic pieces to create a terrifying space age ensemble. Foiled playsuits, metallic jeans, a splash of lurex and big dollop of sequins will magic the killer look you’re after. Toughen up with high-shine silver ankle boots and grungy torn tights to stop things tipping into disco territory. Fast track some eerily luminous, ghoul-like skin by blocking out brows with concealer and dabbing highlighter on cheekbones. Finish with buckets of glitter applied under the eyes or layered up on sockets for rainbow glamour.
Don’t panic if you’ve only got five minutes to get in on the action either. Simply bagsie a novelty tee and amp up your trusty biker jacket by pinning on a medley of gothic brooches. Halloween armoury, sorted! All that’s left to do is rack up the pumpkins, sprinkle the cobwebs and prepare to channel your inner scream queen!
