Sweater weather is potentially our favourite type of weather. It’s warm enough for layering (we heart layers), but not quite cold enough for a coat (which means your knitwear game has to be on point!). Since the time is nigh, we've got a few little tips and tricks, for both style and practicality, to hold you in good stead when you’re wearing and caring for your threads this season.

Knitwear has taken the tonal route for AW16, with everything from oatmeal to khaki, and blush, to rust coming through. All of these earth tones sit beautifully together, and are even complemented by nature’s own autumnal palette. These shades also have a retro air about them, looking particularly throwback-ready when paired with suedette, A-line silhouettes, and preppy accessories.
Classic black and staple grey will look super-chic with a white shirt collar underneath, so get set to layer-up your fave shirts for an office-friendly #OOTD.
So, what shapes should you be buying into? Autumn/winter 16 brings forth a few curveball silhouettes as well as super-tradish staples. The bodysuit has to be one of the most unexpected iterations, with knitted polo neck bodysuits coming through in sleek fine gauge knits, allowing you to tuck in your knitwear, while avoiding the horror of unseemly fabric bulges.
Elsewhere, longline is also key, demonstrating the ripple effect of the fascination with longer lengths seen across both sportswear and menswear for the past few seasons. Sleeves trail past traditional lengths, and necklines get a shake-up - think extreme bateaus, semi-Bardots, and cocooning cowls.
When it comes to caring for knitwear, it’s SUPER important to keep the temp low – too hot, and you’re basically asking the laundry fairies to shrink your clothes. If you have the time / patience / will, ideally hand-wash your knitted goodies, and then lay them flat to dry, so they don’t stretch.
Knitwear bobbles or ‘pilling’ can be so devastating. If you think it always seems happen to your most beloved items, we’re afraid to tell you, it’s not a coincidence. With excess wash and wear, pilling is inevitable. This disastrous phenomenon occurs when tiny fibres rub together, and become entangled. The only way to avoid this is to wash the item as infrequently as humanely possible, and to use a soft conditioning detergent when laundry day can no longer be ignored.
Not sure about you, but we basically need one of each. Loving the look? See how to layer-up your snuggle-worthy wish list, below, with our new season must-haves and trend reports.
