THE REMARK PRIMARK

The Re:Mark: Remember When?

At a recent fashion dinner with friends I was reminded of some of my favourite beauty products that I swore by in my uni days, but have barely thought of since. Nostalgia and longing for those golden days have been on my mind ever since and now I’m doing my upmost to get back there… starting with my make-up bag.

THE REMARK PRIMARK

The products in question were ideal for hiding dark circles under eyes, faking a post-run glow and highlighting my face in all the right places, and still are. Truth be told, I need all three in my life more now than I ever did then. Nothing makes a faster impact to my look and morning mood than an airbrushed appearance, flushed cheeks and soft strobing cheekbones – especially when it’s all achievable in under ten minutes flat.

Us make-up aficionados get rather attached to our favourite products, the ones we swear by and recommend to all our friends, and subsequently use Every. Single. Day. And few things are more annoying to a devotee than hearing that one of your beloved products has been discontinued? I’ve often felt near bereft! That killer item that’s becomes part of your make-up and daily routine, and now you have to carry on without it. Major sad times!

However, bear with me as there’s a plus side to this story. Casting my mind back to my college day faves has reminded me to revisit my darling golden oldies, but it’s also pushed me into finding new cult products to recreate those memories.

With the beauty industry inundated with new product launches each week it means we have plenty to play with. Much like our Gen Z friends, we’re not expected to be product loyal anymore, but can pick ‘n’ mix and change it up each time, until we find our perfect match.

Make-up has come a long way since I was a student. Contouring, baking, draping, lip kits, banana powder – you name it, I’ve tried it and you NEED it! There’s a new make-up trend on the block every week and so it's tough to keep up. Buying into all of them might make you a fanatic, but at least at Primark you’ll be a frugal fanatic – which is the best kind! And nothing excites me more than using a new product for the first time. whether I use it again or not is irrelevant, that anticipation doesn’t go away.

Now with my new make-up arsenal in tow, there isn’t a situation I’m not kitted out for. Whether it’s festival fields, island getaways, or surviving the heatwave I’ve got a cosmetic bag for each and every one. So next time I’m out with the fashion crew, I’ll not only be looking my made up best, I’ll also have a bag full of new recommendations!
