The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh

The Accord is an independent agreement designed to make all garment factories in Bangladesh safe workplaces. It includes independent safety inspections at factories and public reporting of the results of these inspections.



ACT (Action, Collaboration, Transformation) is an initiative between international brands and retailers, manufacturers and trade unions to address the issue of living wages in the textile and garment supply chain. ACT aims to improve wages by establishing industry collective bargaining in key countries (including Cambodia and Bangladesh), supported by world class manufacturing standards and responsible purchasing practices.

Better Mills Initiative (BMI)

The BMI is a partnership between Solidaridad, brands and retailers and their suppliers. The programme aims at achieving measurable improvements in the textile dyeing and washing sector in China with an initial focus on the Yangtze River Delta.


Better Work

Better Work is an ILO and IFC initiative. Working with employers, governments, factories, unions and buyers, Better Work aims to improve working conditions through the provision of factory level assessments, advisory services and training. Better Work runs programmes, in Cambodia, Haiti, Indonesia, Jordan, Lesotho, Nicaragua, Vietnam and Bangladesh.

Dhaka University

MADE-BY is a European not-for-profit organisation with a mission to improve environmental and social conditions in the fashion industry. The organisation was founded by Solidaridad, a leading Dutch and international NGO that has been an innovator and driving force in fair trade and environmental issues.

Solidaridad is an international network organisation that works on creating sustainable supply chains from the producer to the consumer. It brings together supply chain actors and engages them in innovative solutions to improve production, ensuring the transition to a sustainable and inclusive economy that maximizes the benefit for all. Solidaridad´s textiles programme works to improve labour conditions in garmenting units and reduce environmental pollution from dyeing mills.


St.John's Medical College Hospital

St.John's Medical College Hospital is a tertiary medical service centre with 1200 beds. It offers specialist and diagnostic services.


Sustainable Apparel Coalition

Primark is a member of the SAC, a coalition of more than 150 global brands, retailers and manufacturers, as well as government, non-profit environmental organizations, and academic institutions, which are collectively committed to improving supply chain sustainability in the apparel and footwear industries. There are currently more than 150 members of the SAC, the majority of which are global brands and retailers including: adidas, C&A, Gap, H&M, JC Penny, Kohl’s, Levi’s, L.L. The Textilbündnis is the German government’s Partnership for Sustainable Textiles. The multi-stakeholder initiative, comprising of brands, associations, NGOs, unions, standard-setting organisations and the German government, combine their expertise and commitment, in order to achieve social, ecological and economical improvements along the textile supply chain. For these complex challenges, the members of the initiative work together to establish common solutions.


TUV is an approved auditing and certification body for various international sustainable development, climate change and social compliance standards. TUV also provides IT security and safety and energy efficiency consultancy services.



UL is a global, independent safety science company dedicated to promoting safe living and working environments. UL holds seven companies which offer services to ensure product safety, and sustainable and responsible sourcing solutions. 



The Dutch Retail Council (RND) is the independent central employers' organisation of retailing in the Netherlands. The RND is an ‘umbrella’ organisation comprising various membership groups. VGT is one of these associations, representing textile retailers.  The group focuses on collective CSR and trade policy issues.


Waste and Resources Action Plan (WRAP)

WRAP is a government funded initiative established in 2000 with the objectives of minimising resource use and diverting priority materials from landfill. WRAP leads the Sustainable Clothing Action Plan (SCAP). SCAP’s ambition is to improve the sustainability of clothing across its lifecycle. By bringing together industry, government and the third sector, it aims to reduce resource use and secure recognition for corporate performance by developing sector-wide targets.



ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) is the industry working group of major apparel and footwear brands and other stakeholders who have made a shared commitment to phase out the use of hazardous chemicals by 2020.
