Unless you’ve been living in outer space, we’re pretty sure you know what contouring is. The face fad has been gaining fans like crazy, with a hard-core following (way beyond people whose names start with ‘K’). Think it’s time you joined the contour craze? Look no further…
First up, for any newbies: let's explain the transformative power of contouring. The hugely loved technique is the most flattering way to build on your natural appearance, enhancing and exaggerating all the beauty your mamma gave you. There are many myths out there but the idea is simple: it’s all about the perfect balance of highlighting and bronzing.
Some save it for a night out, and some like to amp it up daily. But whenever you decide to contour, make sure to soak up this savvy tip-list first.
Most makeup routines have you start with a flawless base - and this is no exception. Apply a light layer of our liquid foundation to cleansed, toned, and moisturized skin. Whether you use a brush, sponge, or your fingertips to apply foundation, we know complexion perfection can get tricky - but lucky you, we have a guide for that!
The foundation is set - so we can move on to the fun part! We have a choice of contouring goodies to get you on the road to impossible cheekbones. Allow us to introduce the contour palette... Artfully arranged from dark to light (left to right), this compact one-stop-shop is a foolproof tool for contour success. The next steps are literally as easy as 1, 2, 3!
Using a soft brush, sweep a layer of the darkest powder along your jawline, under your cheekbones, and down the sides of your nose. Next, use the mid-tone powder to add warmth to your skin tone, and balance out the contrast of the darker powder. Finally, use the palest powder to highlight. This is the key to finishing the contoured look - sweep it across cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, your brow line, and the cupid's bow of your lip.
What we love most about this beauty trend is how it enhances – not covers – your natural features. It’s all about highlighting versus bronzing, and taking advantage of the play of light on your face.
