NYC Diaries #1: Where to Eat
There’s nothing we love more than some good travel here at Primark HQ – any excuse to make an obsessive packing list. And because mini-toiletries! So when we picked New York for our FW16 photoshoot, we started flexing our selfie-stick muscles and got ready to feast on the finest flavors in the Big Apple. Since we had too much fun to keep it all to ourselves (sorry not sorry!), we thought we’d share the 411 on where to head for tasting and travel in a two-part diary. First up: here’s where you should take your taste buds in the city that never sleeps – we are totally drooling just thinking about it…
For street food goodness
Is Mexican your idea of food bliss? Does street food make your heart sing? Then the Manhattan speakeasy-style restaurant La Esquina is the place to go for seriously fab flavor. Once you find your way in (it’s a quirky location where a reservation is 100% required), get ready to feast. From crispy tortillas to juicy enchiladas, this place serves up majorly fantastic Mexican munchies. Room for dessert? Always! Go for the "Lava de chocolate" with one spoon – sharing is NOT an option.
For caffeine connoisseurs
Strolling through Soho is a must when in NYC, but you’ll probably need to caffeine up to see it all. To satify your coffee cravings, head to Mercer Kitchen. Located in the Mercer Hotel on Prince Street, this sleek setting is a celeb hotspot, with exposed brick walls and candlelit sconces (like that dreamy Snapchat filter in a light bulb). When coffee cannot wait, step in and refresh for more shopping and exploring.
For the ultimate veggie brunch
Brunch your fave activity? Yep, same here! Which is why The Butcher’s Daughter juice bar and café is where we spent most days munching from 10-12. With a great selection of pastries and brioche French toast to die for (mmm), if you like your food a little fancy and a whole lot yummy then you have to get out to Kenmare Street and settle into this cool, cozy spot.
For a little romance
Traveling with your bae? You'll always find a romantic treat at Freemans. The hunting lodge-style restaurant offers dreamy ambience for partners and pals. And the food? 3 magic words: mac and cheese. This cheesy dream is mega-famous, and totes reason enough to head to the Lower East Side. For a healthier but still yummy pick, try the avocado salad with cilantro dressing. We were seriously feeling the love – for the food, obvs.
For the classic diner experience
Diner NYC adds a cooler edge to the traditional American diner. With all the character but a little less "50’s jukebox", if you're looking for quality food and a quirky setup with wonderful staff who love what they do, then Brooklyn’s converted 1920's Pullman-car diner is your kinda place. With daily menu changes there’s always a reason to go back – but we'll fess up and say it’s all about the humble burger. Traditionally delicious, with a modern diner vibe.
That said...now we're starving! But for real: thinking about our trip gives us the tastiest feels. It’s impossible to choose our fave in a sea of seriously good flavor, but the fun's in exploring. Hit up our recommendations and discover your own: after all, we all gotta eat! Stay tuned for the next installment of our NY Diaries (we’ll venture beyond food at some point… maybe), and make sure you check out the collection we managed to shoot between munching, below!
