Alexandra Richards: Style Secrets
With a sense of style that rocks as much her Rolling Stones dad, and a reputation for killing it on the decks, Alexandra Richards was the natural DJ of choice for our Primark Boston DTX store opening.
Not only a marvel on the decks, the rock 'n' roll heiress has an envious modeling portfolio, having been lensed by photography royalty like Mario Testino, Annie Leibovitz, and Patrick Demarchelier (when your mom is a supermodel, joining the 'family business' is practically unavoidable.) We caught up with the DJ du jour to talk personal style, vintage hand-me-downs, and what it's like to have not one, but TWO, seventies' icons for her parents.
Tell us about the Primark piece you’re wearing tonight, what do you love about it?
I love a good black jacket, especially a leather one. Black pants are my go-to for the night, and these perfect suede boots add a hint of color to bring my look together.
How would you describe your personal style?
I love a thought-about outfit, effortlessly put together. Sounds kind of crazy, but if you over think a look it's just not right. I like to leave a little time after I'm ready to accessorize with a scarf or some statement jewelry. Just to complete my look before I walk out the door.
Who, and what, inspires your approach to dressing?
Myself, my mood, and my surroundings. I like to try on a lot of different things, I'm not someone who has a one particular look. I like to try different things.
How does your work as a DJ inform your wardrobe?
Not a lot to be honest. I just don’t wear a lot of floaty things while I DJ. In the past, I've gotten clothing and accessories stuck on vinyls and needles. I love a form fitting look when I work, it's easier to move in. I do love accessorizing my look with rings and bangles: they are my go-to for sure.
Your parents are two mega 70s icons, have you received any amazing vintage hand-me-downs that you can wear in time for Fall's 70s revival?
The majority of my scarves are hand-me-downs. My parents collected a lot of them on their travels, and I find many of them in my closets these days. The scarves smell of my parents, and I love incorporating them into my own style. I also grabbed a black leather and suede shoulder bag from my mum. It's the perfect girls-night-out handbag, it's comfortable to wear and has a definite 70s feel to it.
