The Re:Mark: Denim Desire
Jeans are my go-to for most occasions. Never do I feel more comfier than in my fave pair of ripped denims. Whether it’s my slouchy boyfriends, high-waisted skinnies, or faded vintage, there is a pair in my wardrobe for all events. Dressed up or down, they're a girl’s best friend!
It’s no secret that girls have been stealing jeans from their boyfriend's closets for years – after all, where do you think "boyfriend fit" came from? Maybe it was the love-worn appeal of the lived-in denim that drew us in, but it was the fit that kept us coming back.
The boys may have kept it more of a secret that they were borrowing from the girls too, especially when spray-on skinny jeans were having a moment: those indie boy bands have a lot to answer for! A number of my guy pals have admitted to wearing Primark ladies' skinnies in the past, because it gave them the extra-tight fit they were after (not to mention being a steal at just $10.)
Fast-forward nearly 10 years and tons of retailers and designer brands are embracing this philosophy: gender fluidity is taking Main Street by storm. Whether a genderless clothing line is the way forward, or you’re just happy to hit the men’s/women’s department in search of your preferred fit, it’s never been easier to achieve your denim desires.
But that’s not all. Denim's really having a moment this season and I’m not just talking about cut – it’s now all in the detail.
Across the board the everyday fave has gotten artisanal updates, from hand-painted finishes to floral embroidery and appliqué patchworking. It's never been easier to put your own stamp on what you’re wearing – and it doesn’t have to break the bank, either.
Embroidery is making denim a serious head-turner, first on the catwalks and now on Main Street too. Statement bold florals in poppy red, rose pink and jungle green can be found decorating the leg panels and collars of our Mom-fit jeans and denim trucker jackets. And we'll have hand-painted finishes in the store later in the season, too – keep your eyes peeled for that beautiful custom look! Kidswear is getting in on the action too, with star and floral prints for autumn/winter: so even the little ones can get the cheeky update to their denim.
As my house move gets ever closer I will definitely be spending my weekend knee-deep in packing boxes – oh, the glamour... But I know my oldest and softest boyfriend jeans will get me through it. Or maybe I’ll rock the denim overalls to really give the movers a run for their money – after all, it’s never been chicer to be a denim diva!
