The Re:Mark, by Jayne Bibby
From London to Florence and back, it’s been non-stop: Fashion Week is off and running, and we're thinking about all things male…
It's been a menswear-filled couple of weeks: LC:M took over the streets of London, with new locations on The Strand and in Marylebone providing a different vibe this season. The spread-out venues created less of a hub so street style was harder to come by – but the catwalks still delivered what London does best: shock and delight, while the men’s runways became the place for many designers to debut their womenswear collections as well.
We caught up with Ten Magazine’s Will Johns and Re-bel's Lee Elias, to find out how they prep for Fashion Week. We also hung out with some of our own: Olly and Marcello gave us a glimpse into their fashion buying world while spending the day surveying the streets for new trend inspo.
As LC:M wound down, the fashion pack relocated to Florence for the menswear trade show Pitti Uomo. I grabbed my case and joined them in the Renaissance heart of Tuscany, in the name of our latest editorial photo shoot. Nice work, if you can get it!
With Pitti Uomo as the backdrop, the iconic courtyard was the location for our latest "A Day in the Life" feature, where we take a look at the people behind the brand and ask them to reveal all – metaphorically, of course. The models for the day were Scott, Ed and Blathnaid, all from our Menswear buying and design team, suitably styled in key pieces from our Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter collections.
For those of you who caught my Florence Snapchat takeover, you'll know these guys have major #squadgoals appeal – if not, defo follow Primarksnap for all of our future BTS moments. It’s the place to be! Seriously. To see the final results from our city getaway, check out our "A Day in the Life" feature coming soon.
With the infamous overdressed, over-accessorized "peacocks" posing up a storm outside Pitti, it was no surprise men's tailoring received the most street style snaps. Maybe it’s time to make a move towards the more casual-cool look, huh boys? That said, there was a definite shift to more laid-back looks: white leather sneakers were the new loafers, and athleisure took new form as neon sports sneaks were worn with a three-piece tailored treat.
Key trends we’re loving from Florence: coffee colors for tailoring with cream, mocha and espresso hues worn together for big impact. Stripes are the only print in sight in this season and the "neckerchief" is back all over. Look for Trend Reports from our Menswear Editor, Jaiden, going live in the coming weeks.
With Milan fashion week over and done with, it’ll be time for a Parisian rendezvous for the last leg of Menswear - I can just taste the extra-strong coffee and buttery croissants from here...
I'll leave you with my postcards from Pitti. Til next week...I’m signing off! Au revoir...
