The ReMark Knit

The Re:Mark: Editors' Knitmas Picks

Being Scottish, the art of wrapping up warm in winter is something I grew up with to survive the bitterly cold Highlands months. I’ve always envied people who can make a winter knitwear statement without losing their fashion cred – it’s not as easy as it sounds! I mean, who doesn’t love an oversized knit or longline cardigan this far in the season? But it’s how you wear it that counts.

The Re:Mark Knit

Knitwear's not a casual afterthought anymore: it’s become a fashion main player. In the Primark office, there's been a definite uptick in the layering love on my team as we slowly start to sleigh ride towards Christmas. Love a "bit of a knit", too? Looking to update your woolly look this winter? Check out some great hacks to up your style stakes...

The oversized cardigan's a key menswear piece since dominating the F/W 16 catwalks: the coatigan is definitely on the rise. So you can feel free to leave your coat at home, guys – but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be layering. In fact, the fine gauge roll-neck's having a fashion moment (again): it's the perfect partner to wear under a classic crew or chunky ribbed V-neck – and should def be on your boyfriend’s Christmas wishlist.

He might not know he needs it yet but he soon will, promise! Plus it means you can borrow it too: win-win!

Want to leave novelty sweaters for the Ugly Christmas Sweater party, but still want a dash of holiday happy? Then Fair Isle's the knit for you. The Nordic-inspired style adds just enough festive cheer without making you feel as decorated as the tree. Like to sparkle your way through the season? Now's the perfect time for daytime lurex threads, and all-over embellishment.

But enough trend talk. To get in seriously festive mode, let me and the Primark Editors walk you through our hot (well, warm and fuzzy, really) picks for knitwear chic.

"My love for Scandinavian design shows from my wardrobe to my décor, so Fair Isle is the obvs choice for me. These cool creams and oatmeal hues keep this knit sophisticated, while the red and white gives a wink to novelty – the perfect mix for the festive season. I’ll be wearing my oversized knit with every girl’s best friend  – distressed boyfriend jeans – and heeled boots in shade of the season: plum! After all, if you can’t go Fair Isle at Christmas, when can you?"

Jodie Jones, Womenswear Editor

Jodie Jones, Primark

"As a big fan of the dark side, it’s no surprise I’m all about our black Christmas knit this season. We all feel the peer pressure when it comes to Christmas Sweater parties – but if I have to  embrace the holiday spirit and de-Scrooge for just one day, I’d at least like to keep it as true to my personal style as possible. I’ll be pairing our sequin slogan chunky knit with a white shirt, leather mini or black skinnies, and ankle boots. The sequins on the front transform from 'Let it snow' to a simple snowflake design, so I can subtly stroll down Novelty Lane without having to look like a human Christmas tree!"

Jaiden James, Menswear Editor

Jaiden James, Primark

"Winter's the perfect time to invest in knitwear – and I do love Fair Isle: it's seasonal but not over-the-top. Regardless of the dos and don’ts from rulesmakers and naysayers, my holiday sweater pick isn't just for December. I can restyle and wear it all winter, a trusty friend to combat the cold! I’ll wear it with a flannel checked shirt for a dressier touch, make it low-key with rip-and-repair light washed jeans, and finish the look with winter boots. A dressy-casual holiday look that stylishly combats the cold while spreading some festive cheer!'

And there you have it: our merry little Knitmas, all wrapped up. See you next week!
