The Re:Mark: Winter Wonderings
I’m approaching winter this year with a total lack of preparation – and to be perfectly honest, in denial! I’m no further along with my prep that I was a month ago. I haven't bought a new coat, I’m still living in loafers with bare ankles, and I’m wearing my off-the-shoulder tops like mad. The mild weather has just been encouraging me! So what's it going to take to get me well and truly out of summer mode and into the dark days of winter? An excuse to go shopping, maybe...?
In the fashion world, a new season means one thing – the perfect excuse to hit the stores. You simply MUST indulge in that new season coat, weatherproof ankle boots, and knitwear for all occasions, right? We won't focus on the already jam-packed wardrobe I seem to have collected over the years... But hey! I don’t have anything for FW16 yet – plus who’s going to stop me?
There’s nothing more satisfying than that new-clothes goodness to put a smile on your face in the morning rush. It’s funny how the freedom to wear "anything" to work makes it harder than school days, when some kids just had to throw on a uniform. Dress code choices are endless, and result in many a late arrival in the office…sorry Primark!
However: with uniform in mind, the "greatcoat" is definitely turning my head this winter. With its military-influenced metallic buttons and embellishment, and floor-length style ensuring it stands out from the crowd, it’ll be marching out of the store in no time. I'll pair it with my ripped boyfriend jeans for dressed-down weekend vibes, or with cropped, tailored pants, buttoning it up and cinching it in at the waist for my office-ready look.
I’m also slightly obsessed with longer-line denim jackets at the moment. In line with the personalizing and customizing trend, the Primark buyers have outdone themselves with hand-painted picks and multiple appliqué badge decorations. I couldn’t decide, so I got both! They're the perfect layering piece: I'll wear them under my camel Crombie coat or navy blue, boiled wool wrap coat, nicely mixing up the textures and colors.
Regular readers of The Re:Mark will know I’m a big fan of the never-ending athleisure trend. Since I've already pulled this trend into my daywear, I feel it’s time to embrace it for partywear, too! And with the padded jacket coming back in a new wave of decadent fabrics from velvet to all-over sequins, it’s just adding to my already out-of-control athleisure love affair.
And so, with my new outerwear options decided, at least I can check something off my winter to-do list. Next up: new boots, bag, jewelry, lipstick, nail color…too far?!
