The Halloween-Ready Edit

Want to look suitably spooky without totally scaring everyone off this Halloween? Then you need a look that’s both stylish and deadly. Let fashion journalist and founder of lifestyle platform The Lucy Edit show you the way...
When it comes to your wardrobe, there’s no better time to turn heads and get jaws dropping than Halloween. But that’s no excuse to totally lose your fashion cred, chicas! Sure a little harmless dressing up is fun – but perfecting a costume-worthy Halloween look that packs a major fashion punch is always serious business... So step away from the pumpkin suit and slasher-flick fake blood: it’s time to think more chic, less freak! Whether it’s a scary house party or spooky dinner date, you’ll soon be the ruling fright-night fashionista.
Packing a potent hit of lace is a great place to start for Victoriana vamp and zombie corpse-bride vibes. Make a beeline for lacy dresses, tops, and skirts and mix with pieces you already own: over-the-knee boots, leather jeggings and high-collared bodysuits work wonders. Then, Halloween-ify your getup with a few chilling extras... Try a bat mask or killer cat ears, throw in some crucifix earrings and give yourself a red mani and you'll be well on your way to Halloween couture. Heavily-lined eyes are a must! Smudge liner on the lash line, fill in lids with sultry shades and blend before coating lashes with buckets of mascara.
Satisfy your inner Morticia Addams: zone in on some bewitching velvet. Go for graveyard shades like black or gray, then fake chalk-white skin by painting contour cream all over your face. Sure to scare off the toughest trick or treat-ers! Bypass the broomstick and add fierce witchy claws, a choker and peaked hat for spellbound perfection. Top with just-bitten crimson lips (go for cauldron-black if you dare) and carry a solo red rose to be instantly insta-ready.
Intergalactic cyber goth, anyone? Snap up fun, futuristic pieces to create a terrifying spacey ensemble. Foil playsuits, metallic jeans, a hit of lurex and big dash of sequins will conjure up the killer look you want. Toughen up with high-shine silver ankle boots and grungy torn tights to avoid sliding into disco territory. Fast-track eerily luminous, ghoul-like skin: block out brows with concealer and dab highlighter on cheekbones. Finish with tons of glitter under the eyes or layered up on sockets for rainbow glam.
Have only five minutes to get in on the action? Don’t panic! Just grab a novelty tee and amp up a biker jacket by pinning on piles of gothic brooches. Halloween armor – done! Now all you have to do is rack up the pumpkins, sprinkle the cobwebs and get ready to channel your inner scream queen!
