A Love Letter to Paris
Paris, Je t’aime!
My name's Megan Vit. I'm 25, a Parisian blogger and Youtuber, and an extremely lucky girl! You know why?
Because I get to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Anywhere in the world, all you have to say is the word "Paris" to put a smile on people's faces. Everyone knows about this wonderful city, and dreams of coming here at least once. Living in Paris feels like seeing postcards every time you look, no matter where you are.
The global capital of fashion, it's given birth to most of the greatest designers in the world. And it's the capital of fantastic food that everyone envies! Who hasn't heard of French cuisine? And I'm not taking snails or frogs' legs: in reality, very few French people eat them. It's also one of the world's greatest centers of art and culture, with 139 museums and as many art galleries and temporary shows. No wonder it's the third most visited city in the world!
So it goes without saying that Paris is an endless source of inspiration.
The crazy thing is that after years of living here, I'm still discovering magnificent secret places every day! It really is a city bursting with totally incredible, different little spots. Strolling in Paris is like visiting dozens of different cities.
In the morning, when the sun is just kissing the tops of the monuments, the light is quite simply divine. It's just tucked away up on the hill of Montmartre, near the Sacré Coeur basilica, that this phenomenon is at its most beautiful. It's the reason you'll find so many traditional painters on their stools, constantly painting this landscape, never growing tired of it.
You just need to wander down a few little cobblestoned streets to get to Pigalle, and find yourself in a new and totally different city. And just a short walk away, you'll find the peaceful, opulent neighborhoods around the Parc Monceau, the buzz of the St. Lazare area, or even the magic of the Opéra quarter. That's Paris! It's also what can be a little frustrating to visitors: it's impossible to see everything, even if you're here for a long time. And that's my fabulous luck: I know the hundred faces of Paris, so I always know where to go to fulfill my desires or suit my mood at any given moment!
If I had to pick my favorite neighborhood, it'd have to be Etienne Marcel, in the center of the city. Perfectly located between the Louvre museum, the hip and chic Marais quarter and the Grand Boulevards, I love to stroll there with its endless terraces, little restaurants, boutiques, and great mix of big avenues and little cobblestoned streets.
That's where you'll find my fave restaurant, Le Sinople. It's unusual: basically a giant indoor garden- you eat in a greenhouse next to magnificent plants.
The Centre Pompidou is also high up on my list of spots: First of all it's a huge Modern Art museum, with some of the best European art shows. But the best thing is to go up to the roof and find a huge terrace with a bar and gourmet restaurant, and 360° views all over Paris!
On summer evenings, I wish everyone could experience just once the fun of a picnic with friends on the banks of the River Seine. The hustle and bustle of the city is so close yet seems to be suspended for a while. The coolness of the Seine, the calm of the place sometimes broken by a barge and its huge spotlights illuminating the facades of the buildings on the banks, or sometimes a guitarist in the distance, lulls you in the gentle moment...
And lastly, to close a perfect day, there's nothing better than to let yourself go in one of the 170 nightclubs that dot Paris. From the bridge of a barge to the underbelly of the Parisian underground, there are clubs for everyone's taste.
