Milan Q&A

The third installment of our My City, My Story series takes us to Italy. Milanese maven, Clara Nanut, from the impossibly chic blog, Gourmode, shows us around one of the world's most revered fashion capitals: Milan. Read on for Clara's exclusive low-down on the best hangout spots, where to relax, and how to live La Dolce Vita...

Primark Q&A Milan

If you had to describe your city in three words what would they be?

Unusual treasure hunt!

What is the one thing you always tell people about where you come from?

Do you know the Milanese dish, risotto with ossobuco? You'll love it.

What is the best thing about your city?

Milan is the most contemporary and chaotic city in Italy. The beauty of Milan is not obvious, it has to be discovered. I defined it as an unusual treasure hunt; and exploring it is my favorite game.

How would you describe your city's fashion style?

Milanese style is creative, unexpectedly conservative, and always has a twist of sophistication.

Which city haven't you visited, but would love to see?

Berlin, I have never been! Shame on me. At the start of Fall, I daydream of visiting the zoo, the Mitte, the hipster cafes, and soaking up classic Berlin vibes.

What are your top tips for a successful [unreadable] shopping trip at your local Primark?

Find a shopping partner who has a car. Wear flats. And don't forget to check out the accessories section for interesting jewellery. Also - enjoy!

Describe a perfect day in your city... Including where you'd visit/eat/sight-see.

Start with a blueberry crunchy croissant at my favorite old school cafe, Gattullo. Then, feast your eyes on some floral treats at Clori, in the majestic Piazza Sant'Eustorgio. Afterwards, feed your brain with an exhibition at Museo del Novecento.

For lunch? Try oTTo, II Salumaio, God Save The Food, or Asola... there are so many places to sample different flavors. After lunch, take a walk through 5vie, and don't miss a chance to stop by Wait & See - my fave concept store - as well as Colonne di San Lorenzo, Porta Ticinese, til Tortona.

Tired? It's only aperitivo time! Try Mag cafe or Cucchi, depending on the vibe you're looking for. In the evening, treat yourself to a final gourmet stop at Drogheria Milanese, Giacomo Bistrot, or Langosteria for a casual, fancy, or charming dining experience. End your day at Roommate Giulia or Ostello Bello for some well-deserved beauty sleep!

What's your secret favorite place in your city?

If you ask me where you can escape to enjoy a good book, to think and dream, and to stop and reflect, I always go to Villa Necchi - my favorite surreal hideaway. Villa Necchi is an elegant building from the 1930s, incredibly innovative for the time, and even for today, thanks to architect Piero Portaluppi.
