Our "My City, My Story" campaign is taking a peek at the home cities of some of our fave bloggers. From the deets on how a city can steal your heart to the secret spots you have to visit, we’re taking a fast and furious tour around the world. This week we’re saying "Bonjour" to Megan, as she answers all our most important questions. Paris is her city, and this is her story…
Describe your city in three words.
Love, Celebration, Art.
What's your city's greatest advantage?
I think it's the fact that it's a city of 100 faces: you only need to stroll around to realize that each neighborhood is a different city, as much in ambiance as people, and architecture... It's a wonderfully disorienting place!
What's the first thing you tell people who ask where you come from?
That's it's just how they imagine it...only better!
How would you describe the fashion style of Parisians?
Paris is one of fashion's "Big Four", along with New York, London and Milan--that are often called "fashion capitals". It was also in Paris where haute couture was invented, and was where most of the great designers of the twentieth century got their start. In other words, it's a city with a very strong artistic heritage, and you can feel it in the fashion.
What's your favorite secret place?
There are several, but my very faves are the rooftops. There are so many rooftop terraces in Paris that we often forget to look up at them. And yet, these terraces have some of the most beautiful views imaginable! Le Perchoir, the Molitor Pool, the Barbès...so many places to discover!
What does a perfect day in your city look like?
Breakfast/brunch French-style at Mama Shelter, then rollerskating on the banks of the Seine that are traffic-free on Sundays, a perfect place to discover Paris from the Seine and take great shots of your look. As a reward for my efforts, have a yummy waffle at Berthillon on the Ile Saint-Louis, near the Sacré Coeur... Come back and have a good shower then dinner at the Alcazar, near Saint Germain des Prés. And if I'm still up to it, have a random drink at one of Paris's thousands of bars and clubs!
Tell us a story about your city that few people know.
As I said, there are so many terraces in Paris (cafés, restaurants, bars)... You'd need 29.8 years to check them all out (not counting all the new ones that would open during all that time)! Yes, there are currently 9, 057 (right now)!
What city do you dream of visiting one day?
I dream about Los Angeles. And going rollerskating at Venice Beach!
Finally, what's your advice for a successful shopping spree at your nearest Primark?
Go with your significant other, because there are so many great choices and prices that you can easily leave with tons of things you won’t be able to carry home all by yourself!
