The Re:Mark: Back To the Future
Why is it that looking back on your childhood gives you all the feels? From your little kid friends, fave bands and shows, to the posters in your locker and the color of your bedroom walls. In a fashion age that craves a "see now, buy now" mentality with a "more is more" vibe, could it all have just gotten a little too much? Are we retreating back to our comfort zones until it’s all over? Enter nostalgia: a new fashion movement all its own.
With Netflix's "Stranger Things" hailed as the most successful original series yet, I think it’s the trip down memory lane that has everyone yearning for more. With nods to the 80's, tons of pop culture references and retro fashion statements (did you catch the mom jeans?), it’s no wonder we're totally sucked in.
Trend forecasters will tell you it’s all young people's fault – yup, us basically! Gen X can’t take it anymore: they're looking back to childhood for comfort – and millennials even more so. With the comeback of computer games, Polaroid pics, and vinyl, it’s a no-brainer that rock band tees – for girls and guys – are also having a fashion moment.
From the Stones to Nirvana, Def Leppard to AC/DC – who says you need to be a long-haired rocker to go for this season's Next Big Thing? But do the front-row followers in these tees actually listen to the music, and have they even heard of the bands outside of that Spotify 80's Power Ballad playlist? Does it matter?
Nope! Not when they look this good with jeans, cutoffs and leather biker jackets. After all, fashion's supposed to be fun, right?
But the retro references don’t end there. This week, our Menswear collection takes athleisure style up a notch: we're revisiting late 80's and early 90's rave culture, with color blocked tees, track tops and bucket hats with everyday basics to reinvent the look for now.
Memories of holing up in your teen bedroom giving you the throwback feels? So go all retro on us: get with the bright colors of Cuban Zen. Shake off those (*cringe*) teen vibes with this hot hit of acid shades mixed with pastel hues.
If all else fails, nothing says "modern vintage" better than a classic eyeliner flick and the perfect red pout – finally, all those years of trying on mom’s red lipstick have paid off... (Not sure she'd agree though!)
Now to get Primark working on those hoverboards…..
