The Re:Mark: Get Ready To Chill
As the #YearOfYou gets well and truly underway (is it really February already?), isn’t it about time we deal with the cold, miserable weather and just use it as an excuse to stay in and get cozy? With the new year forcing me to be positive despite all the reasons not to be (read: January blues, no money, forever raining), I can’t help but make myself a perfect little hideaway.
I’m the kind of girl who always tries (and fails) to stick to my New Year’s resolutions – but this year I’m determined! So first up: dealing with my flat. Six months has been plenty of time to settle in and decide exactly what work I want to do. The bathroom renovations are currently in full swing, but I’m living in a building site – not ideal for an OCD kinda girl. So I’ve decided to create a haven in my living room and hibernate there every evening and weekend until it’s all over.
"Hygge" is the new buzzword on everyone’s lips – and in the words of best-selling writer Meik Wiking, author of "The Little Book Of Hygge" and CEO at The Happiness Research Institute (best job title ever!): it’s all about "feeling hygge" rather than doing it. So now's the perfect time to set up camp at home and stay there.
We all know pajamas had a major moment last season and wearing your PJs out for dinner or to work became normal – with chic, silky fabrics, contrast piping, and heels instead of your softest joggers and fave cotton tank.
Consider Hygge the perfect excuse to buy a new PJ set; then grab your fave books or flicks, stock up on candles, and cozy up with a throw on the sofa – utter bliss! Still not sure what I’m talking about? Get the Hygge homeware lowdown right here.
Could we be seeing see this trend continue through spring, but for very different reasons? In uncertain times (and not forgetting the miserable weather), we tend to stick with the familiar, comfortable and nostalgic. Maybe it’s the Hygge effect, or the carryover from Christmas coziness, or maybe it's something more: yucky weather and worry about the year ahead. The good news? Super-chic PJs aren’t going anywhere – they're just getting better for Spring 17. But this time they’re most definitely the stay-at-home kind.
With February temps probably dropping – and January’s paycheck probably spent, I'm guessing it's probably going to be a pretty yucky month. Make Netflix, hot chocolate and cozy nights in your new best-friend-and-chill.
