The Re:Mark: The Travel Bug
As a fashion journalist, travel comes with the territory: for events, Fashion Week, research trips and trend reporting. But is it all it’s cracked up to be? It’s the only thing in the world that costs you money, but makes you richer. And that’s why I LOVE it!
But as a 21-year-old graduate, the first time I booked a work trip I found the whole thing pretty intimidating. Flights, hotels, cabs, transfers – what if something went wrong? What if I booked the wrong flight, got delayed and missed my connection, or couldn’t find my transfer at the other end – let alone make my way to the hotel?
I needn’t have worried though, because traveling's really pretty simple. And the more trips you do, the easier it gets. All you need to do is book the flight, find a place to stay at the other end and get yourself to the airport. Totes simple!
I did actually book my hotel for the wrong month once... But everything turned out okay at the other end, thankfully! Major. Rookie. Mistake.
Here at Primark HQ, we're all big travelers, discussing (or should I say fantasizing about?) our upcoming trips daily. We talk about all the best-kept secrets: the great local restaurants, the tucked-away private apartments that are just heaven, and the pieces we've bought to wear at each destination.
That’s one of my fave things about travellng – the wardrobe! Different colors and shapes just work better in hotter climates. Those neon pompoms don’t look so out of place in Baja, or that sunset yellow Kaftan in the Bahamas...
So where should I head on my next trip? Do I keep it simple and go back to that fave sunny spot I go to every year with friends – to that great restaurant, taking the boat out to that island? Or do I go all Survivor: travel far, far away and experience a deserted island, brace myself for a safari, or road trip it around Asia?
I have to admit: I’m pretty big on the jet-set chic thing, too. I’m that smug person at the airport with new luggage, a monogrammed wallet and matching passport cover – but don’t hate me too much, it’s just because I’m a total neat freak! I’m also the one that completely zones out on a flight, catching up on my latest read, podcasts and movies – so my tech travel kit is essential. BTW, if you need any holiday reading inspo just check out what’s on Emily Murray’s (from The Pink House) bookshelf.
So get ready to skip out the office, pack all the essentials, then shed those layers: it’s time to dive into midsummer! Don’t forget your beauty kit (even though you know once that healthy sun-kissed glow kicks in, your poolside looks are going to be on fleek)!
