The Re:Mark: Boy Oh Boy!
This time last year, I was fresh from my trip to the menswear tradeshow Pitti Uomo in Florence, and menswear was on my mind. I had just shot an amazing "Day In The Life" feature on location – and can you believe The Re:Mark column wasn’t even born yet...?
Fast forward a year: this week marks the 1st anniversary of The Re:Mark *cue the balloons and cake*... What better way to celebrate than by taking this column back to where it started, dedicating it to all things menswear? Paris Fashion Week Men’s is currently in full swing, after all...
The overdressed Pitti "peacocks" – so called because they strut their stuff in the iconic courtyard outside the trade show – are always fun to watch, and bring endless styling inspo to men’s fashion. So what style notes can you take from the men in the know to survive the heat this summer – but retain your chic?
It's the season for summer weddings and other formal festivities. So I’m here to help you get your special occasion style on point. We girls can easily survive the heat in a floaty dress and sandals. But it’s you guys I feel sorry for when a suit is called for on a scorching day. The "fash pack" may be pros at it after years of surviving mid-June Milan Fashion Week in three-piece suits (ouch!). But for the mere mortals out there, allow me to point you towards the neutrals for the season...
Think sand, cream and cool blues for tailoring, and keep it simple with layering. Go for a tank or tee instead of the traditional white shirt: use it as a color vehicle to express your personality.
My suggestion? Navy, white or pink. Yes, pink! Pink looks especially good paired with camel, BTW. And if the London catwalks are anything to go by, the bubble-gum reign could be over for next season: hot pink's coming onto the scene, so get ready to go bold, boys!
The catwalks give us a fast-forward look into next winter. But here at Primark while the sun’s shining, we’re all about the pastels, making sure our tonal style is on-point and perfectly paired for major impact. We’re currently coveting mint green in stripes, tie-dye and all-over conversational prints – with lemon, bubble-gum pink and soft blue all playing supporting roles.
Key catwalk trends I like: tonal dressing for casualwear, fast gaining momentum, and the new brights that continue to inject a young, sporty vibe across the board. As color continues to soar on Main Street, we see red making an impact on womenswear – so there’s no doubt in my mind that menswear will be close behind.
Speaking of red-hot, there may be a heatwave in London this week, but I’d do anything to be back in Florence right now: it's where all my inspo for this column came from, after all…
