The Re:Mark: That Disney Magic!
First it was the remake of The Jungle Book, then Beauty and the Beast – and now there are rumors swirling around about The Little Mermaid making a comeback, too (oh…please be true!!). As Disney keeps remaking our childhood faves, each a bigger success then the last, I’ve noticed the Hollywood magic impacting our style picks, too. Are we all yearning for our "happily every after", or just trying to make the nostalgia last longer?
Haven't been swept off your feet by all things Beauty and the Beast in the last couple of weeks? Well...where have you been?! I mean, forget the film for a sec: our cute little Chip mug is enough to make even the hardest of hearts melt – in fact, little Chip sold out in days, went viral and caused a shopping frenzy, came back into stock and sold out all over again! If you managed to get your hands on him, then keep him close: he’s still getting used to his new celeb status and needs taking care of – everyone wants a piece of him!
But it’s not just the oh-so-sweet moments that we’re craving. The fact that the sunshine yellow prom dress makes an appearance at the height of Beauty and the Beast’s re-found fame isn’t just a coincidence! The dress is an attention-grabbing showstopper, symbolizing the moment Belle realizes her true happiness and her love for the Beast is in full bloom. What makes that dress so memorable? It’s those positive feels, joy and clarity linked to yellow.
And it’s not the first iconic yellow dress we’ve seen this season, right? Let’s not forget Emma Stone’s signature dancing dress in La La Land – another movie that warmed our hearts and made us think anything is possible if you let yourself dream it. Thank you, Hollywood!
Color continues its lead role in this season’s hot trends too, splashing that optimism around our closets and homes – check out our Out of Africa trend if you need some inspo. I think yellow will peak just in time for midsummer, so get ready for lots more Belle beauties! In the meantime, pink is showing no signs of slowing down. After dominating Main Street for both men’s and womenswear, it's gaining momentum for homeware too – read what our lovely guest editor Emily Murray from award-winning décor blog The Pink House had to say about bringing pink into the home.
But it’s not just about the clothes! Beauty's throwin' it back to the 90's, too, with a colorful makeup collection inspired by our fave childhood Troll dolls. Move over unicorns, it’s all about the rainbow-haired Trolls now! They've inspired a collection of hair chalk, glitter sprays, body gel and eye shadows – basically that's #beautygoals right there!
Can you just imagine the hype if The Little Mermaid remake happens? With red the color of passion, desire and love and Aerial’s luscious locks destined to become the most copied – plus little Sebastian sure to be America's most wanted crab – nostalgia's future looks red hot!
