The Re:Mark: Stationery Addict
On Sunday afternoons you’ll probably find me at home at my desk, doing a little writing. My dining table will be covered in papers and mags, coffee glued to my hand. And my flat will be completely silent except for my latest podcast obsession – current fave being Emma Gannon’s "Ctrl Alt Delete" (if you’re not already hooked, you soon will be...). Maybe it’s just a peaceful version of the Sunday night panic to get a head start on next week’s work: whatever it is, I couldn’t get through it without my secret addiction: I’m talking all things stationery and tech, of course!
Sometimes I wonder if I’m in the minority of people who like to write alone at home. Writers are known for spending their days in cafes, MacBook on the table and steaming latte in hand – we can probs blame Carrie Bradshaw for this epidemic, but you can’t go anywhere anymore without finding people furiously tapping away on their laptop. Maybe most writers prefer to have company while they sit staring at an empty page, instead of being all alone with a flashing cursor. Personally, I prefer it to be serene.
All writers have their own routine and stationery tastes – or desktop "objets d’art", let's say – to get them through huge workloads and tight deadlines. For me it all Starts. With. Coffee. Caffeine is my BFF. The book I’m reading is always close by, along with a stash of unread but oh-so-wanted fashion mags. But the things that make the most difference are the ones that make my life way easier. Those little things I never knew I needed until I had them – and now I totally can’t survive without.
Truth out: I’m a stationery addict! Always have been. For those of you already obsessed with our in-store Primarket section, you know what I'm talking about! Stationery and tech are life-giving – and anything pink, gold or marble def has my seal of approval.
Who knew how useful a power bank could be? And in so many colors to pick from (have you SEEN the metallic collection?)! I could totally buy a new one every season. And I mean, how good would those copper headphones look on an Instagram flat lay?! From paper clips to notebooks, daily planners to happiness journals and everything in between: if it's gorgeous, looks the part, and matches my current mood – I gotta have it. And NOW!
Even though I'm a digital editor, sometimes I just have to go back to analog. There's something that's just so satisfying about checking things off your to-do list that makes that pen and paper so worth it. I’m a total perfectionist when buying stationery though: I’m STILL hunting for my perfect 2017 planner – oh, ummm...hi March! Looks like I’m getting the May-May version this year... #girlsbossfail
Next Sunday I’ll be back at my desk, living room windows open to let in the spring air, and probably binging on back-to-back podcasts. My to-do list will keep getting longer, next week's planner will be filling up, and my cell will be almost ready to die on me. Thank God I’ll have everything I need for a demanding week ahead right within reach. And for anything I’m missing...there’s always Primarket!
