The Re:Mark: Get The Dress Code
I got my hands up: I’m guilty! Guilty of rushing out to buy a new dress as soon as the sun comes out. Truth is, none of the good dresses stick around for long, and they’re all sold out once I finally get my act together. I should really grab them as soon as they show up in the store in cold, sad February, to make sure I have a good stock when summer finally gets here. However. Since I’ve managed to epically fail fashion planning this year (please tell me I’m not the only one?), I’m panic-buying in May, hoping I can swish my skirt all the way to September.
I pride myself on being organized and ready for most fashion eventualities: shades always in my bag with umbrella, cell always charged, glossy mani at all times so nails are always on fleek, and pen and paper in my handbag like the good journalist I am.
However (ahem!). When it comes to summer, I always seem to forget to preplan and coordinate my wardrobe to get ready for the hot, bright months ahead. I mean, it’s not like summer showing up is a surprise (mind you, in London it can be…!) – I look forward to it all year, so why am I never ready? At the moment I’m in a bit of wardrobe limbo: warm weather's on the way, but my snug winter wardrobe’s still staring me in the face every morning. Time for a change!
The one piece that gets you ready in a sec has the be the dress. No worries about separates and what goes with what: this is a one-stop-shop outfit. All you need to decide is, which dress? It lets you keep hitting snooze on sunny mornings, ditches ironing, and makes the after-work outfit change a thing of the past: why bother when you're already dressed to impress? Already missed out on that gingham dress? Fear not! I‘m here to tell you that there are plenty more options comin' your way...
I have visions of hot summer days, wearing a long floaty maxi dress and flat leather sandals, hoop earrings and a cross body bag.
And yet not one single maxi or midi is hanging in my closet! If it’s not covered in palm prints, sitting off the shoulder, or a shirt dress with a twist, I’m just not interested. And since the blazer's making a major comeback, check out how you can opt in here (I’m thinking a longer-line blazer slung over a summer dress, a perfect way to dress it up, especially with gold military button detailing – I can just see them glistening in the sun now!)...
I fell in love with ‘La La Land’ earlier this year, and am totally sure I’m not the only one. That dreamy yellow dress! That Cali sunshine! Book me a one-way ticket, Right. Now. Here at Primark we have our very own show-stopping yellow maxi in store: keep a look out for our edition coming soon.
If you and your little princess are big fans of the mini-me trend, then you’ll already totes agree: twinning is winning! So why not take some style tips from the little miss, since she seems to have her summer prints already all planned out?
Now that my shopping list is all ready, I'm off to hit the shops – all I have to do now is hope that the sun shows up sooner rather than later... But if not, at least I’m already prepped for next year!
