The Re:Mark: Need. Vacay. Now!
It's already May! And I’m having a mild panic attack that half the year is over, and that serious list of 2017 resolutions I made back in December is starting to feel less and less doable. What have I been doing with my time?? After all, nothing highlights your failures more than other people's successes (boo!).
I'm a millennial, the generation that grew up expressing ourselves on social media. Whether it’s a the 140-character Tweet, an Insta pic, or a public Facebook status, we love it! With everyone else’s social telling me I’m underachieving so far this year (oh how we do love an Insta-brag), this week I’m wondering whether we’ve become a stressed-out generation of over-sharers...or do we all just seriously need a vacay?
I spend my morning train commute scrolling through Insta, Twitter and FB, and I’m either inspired by the #MondayMotivation (cue the fist pump), or slowly dragged down by people having "The. Worst. Week. Ever!" Us millennials aren’t too great at being somewhere in the middle, being average, just doing okay...are we? We kinda dramatize – please be patient with us, ahem! It’s all or nothing for us emotional wrecks!
But with five months of the year already over, some of us are smashing our 2017 #goals–while the rest of us (read: most of us) are still wondering where all the time has gone... I think it’s about time we booked a vacay, got out of the city, chilled out and had a major digital detox. Who’s with me?
When it comes to getting away from it all, I often think it doesn’t matter where you go, it's more about taking a mental break from the daily stress and noise. With a suitcase packed with new goodies, accessories for days, and a thirst for exploring your new vacay spot, you’re good to go!
If you (like me) have already used up all your PTO (ahhh– it was worth it!) and you won’t be jetting off anywhere anytime soon, A suggestion: make the most of your weekends and Memorial Day, for a start! You know the whole "fake it til you make it" thing? That’s just what I intend to do– 'cause unless London has a sudden unexpected heatwave soon, it’ll be fake tan all the way this summer! If you promised yourself you’d really nail the tan this year, then let us give you a refresher on our 6 Tanning Steps.
And if our Primark Pool Party didn’t give enough swimwear inspo the first time, I’m pleased to announce that Phase Two is ready and waiting for you to dive headfirst into!
So what else is left to do but plan hard, or stay home? Chase the sun with the best of 'em, and savor the quiet moments when you can. Hit the coast for a beachside break, or make the most of your local pool.
While you're at it, snap some pics with your #squad– 'cause if nothing else, it’ll give you #throwbackthursday and #flashbackfriday content for weeks when you're back in the office and daydreaming (yet again!)... I might have a love/hate relationship with social media, but I def want to be a part of the conversation, don’t you?
