Primark notes the actions being taken by the Bangladesh courts against a number of individuals in relation to the collapse of the Rana Plaza building in 2013 and the recent media coverage of this. Primark was shocked and saddened by the Rana Plaza disaster, and that is why Primark responded by taking the many steps that it has.

Primark’s response to Chinese note

A Primark spokesperson said:
“The Primark name is being used to gain publicity for the plight of this individual. We have found no link at all between this individual and any of our suppliers’ factories in China. We think it is likely that the note was added after production and it is feasible it was added in transit or at a port.”

Primark’s commitment to supply chain sustainability

Primark is committed to reducing the impact that it has on the environment, and as part of that commitment it has joined the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC). Primark will use the SAC’s sustainability tool, the Higg Index, which measures environmental sustainability, to help drive continuous improvement across its supply chain.

Despite the supplier being an established supplier to other popular European swimwear brands, it was a relatively new supplier to Primark. It clearly does not share our values, given the lengths it went to in carrying out this totally unauthorised subcontracting.
As a result, we have terminated our relationship with this supplier.

Primark’s commitment to zero discharge

Primark is committed to eliminating certain chemicals from its supply chain by 2020, and as part of that commitment has become a member of the ZDHC Group. In line with the Joint Roadmap, Primark wants to help bring about systemic change across the industry, and achieve the goal of zero discharge via all pathways of release, including emissions and losses.
