THE ACCORD ON FIRE AND BUILDING SAFETY IN BANGLADESH

The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh was set up in 2013 following the Rana Plaza disaster. It is an independent, legally binding agreement between brands and trade unions designed to work towards a safe and healthy Bangladeshi Garment Industry. The Accord intends to improve the structural and electrical safety of Bangladeshi factories, and to enable a working environment in which no worker needs to fear fires, building collapses, or other accidents that could be prevented with reasonable health and safety measures. The Accord carries out inspections, holds safety information sessions for workers, and trains safety committees in factories in Bangladesh.
