From Primark to Primonsters

This month we're putting the spook in the shoe department; the horror in homeware; the boo in beauty - it's Halloween once again! We took two unsuspecting Primark HQ employees, two versatile dancefloor-to-Dracula's-Den outfits and some DIY props - the result? A Halloween look that can be used after the pumpkins have been cleared away, on a budget that's far less scary than the costumes. Read on, if you dare...

Primark Halloween

Find yourself wasting money on fancy-pants Halloween costumes every year, only to let them fall into the abyss of your wardrobe never to be seen again? Whilst it can be an easy option to just pick up a themed costume from a fancy dress store, we're keen to create a look that you can implement into your wardrobe after you've slept off the trick'o'treating finds.

The challenge was to find pieces within the Primark store that, with the handy help of a few disposable props and accessories, could create an outfit with a longer shelf life than the zombie costume that disintegrated off you halfway through your mate's party... Double win: you can also wear this outfit at work on the day of the party - you only need to spookify your face with a new makeup look - then off to the dancefloor you go!

For a simple, but oh-so-effective costume that still packs as much sass as it does scary, try recreating this vampy look. We started by raiding the Primark store for a black-on-black outfit - a staple black bodycon dress is perfect - teamed with lashings of our reddest lipstick.

Top tip: use a darker berry shade lipliner to create that Kylie Jenner vibe. For the skin base, we opted for our lightest foundation shade covered with a healthy few dabs of matte finishing powder. For the veil, we picked an elastic headband and tacked some lace fabric from the local haberdashery's. The roses, tucked under the veil, rounded the look off - with one flower held back to ward off any be-fanged suitors.

Looking for a new suit to fit into your repertoire, AND a Halloween costume? Hold garlic up to the bin-bag cape and shop savvy with this crisp slim-fit suit that will have you looking more professional than petrifying when you're back in the office.

For the makeup, again we went with the lightest foundation shade as a base, contoured with a dark eyeshadow shade and a cream shimmer for the highlight. The thick kohl liner brought such a striking depth to the contact lenses that we were kind of scared of our Womenswear Buyer in the studio... To create the dripping blood effect, we dabbed on some of our darkest lip glosses in a mix of shades, resulting in that congealed finish - spooky!
