Beauty 101: Matte Look
Written by Sarah Cooper-White
From plum and black cherry to burgundy and rouge-noir, dark goth-inspired matte lipstick dominated the catwalks for AW16. Get ready to embrace a pout that makes a serious style statement...
What do you do if you want to completely transform your look? Reach for your make-up bag, of course! And there's no better product for a total switch up than a swipe of lipstick. This season it's time to put away your nude glosses and pretty pink balms, and embrace something altogether more dark and dramatic; make a gorgeous, matte black cherry colour your go-to lipstick shade.
This is definitely the one if you want a pout that packs a punch to complement all the velvet and animal print that should be in your AW16 wardrobe (hint, hint). But, to carry off this oh-so glam look, you need to let your lips do ALL the talking and keep the rest of your make-up pared back and simple.
A touch of foundation and a sweep of mascara is all you need to nail the look. And when wearing such an intense colour, there's no doubt all eyes will be on your pout, so keep those lips soft and supple with PS...Pro's lip scrub, and a slick of lip balm.
How much do you love this deep dramatic look? And, if you ask us, matching your lip and nail colour is the ultimate in beauty chic.
Our final tip? Aim for application perfection and use a lip pencil, like our PS... Lip Liner, to match your shade of lippie. It'll stop lipstick bleeding into lines around your mouth and help the colour last longer too. And if you're weary of a full-on shot of burgundy, never fear, you can still wear this look, just soften the effect by pressing the lip colour onto your lips with your finger for a gentler stain.
