#SaveItForThePlaneTicket: New York
Here at Primark HQ we are in an American state of mind, not only because of our impending store opening in Boston in September, but because we’re jetting off for seven days in New York! So if you’ve also got a city break planned this summer read on……….
We all know that packing for a city break can be tricky - you need items that are going to be versatile and comfortable without cutting back on your style credentials. So we’ve broken it down into daily looks for you to take the worry out of packing. Any city hopper worth their salt will tell you that’s is not what you pack but how your style it that counts.
For travelling and checking in you want to keep it smart, comfortable and weather appropriate. After all just because you’re heading off for sunnier climes, doesn’t mean it’s going to be scorchio when you take off. Opt for some tailored shorts, a cool breathable shirt, lightweight desert boots and blazer to add an extra layer of warmth while on the flight – while retaining a formal look for blagging an upgrade at the airport.
When the city heat gets a little too much, you know its time to head out to the Hamptons for a bit of beach time. If you’re not the kind of guy that likes to double up your swim shorts as street wear, then thrown on your old faithful denim shorts, t-shirt and white leather trainers and simply carry your swim shorts in your beach bag. That way you have a simple outfit change when you get there ad a change of clothes to come home in too.
When it come to eveningwear, those hot summer nights can be hard to dress for, you need to look cool without getting too hot. Grab your versatile chino shorts and carefully distinguish what the dress code is. If it’s more casual why not go for an Hawaiian printed t-shirt, lightweight blazer and summer desert boots, topped with shades of course. Or even if its more formal, you can get away with a denim or chambray shirt – fast becoming a recognised sartorial piece.
And last but by no means least you need the perfect look for exploring the city, shopping and sight seeing. In a city like New York you’re going to be doing a lot of walking so this is definitely a day for trainers. A cotton t-shirt is your best bet to keep you cool, while a pastel shade will allow you to look fresh even if you start to feel the heat. Denim shorts worn rolled up at the hem are a must and, of course, you wont get far without your tortoiseshell sunglasses to finish off the whole summer in the city look.
Now that you are well versed with wearing shorts as part of your everyday summer attire, why not introduce them into your wardrobe when you hit back on home soil. Not convinced? Shorts can be worn as part of a suit, kept casual with cargo pocket or worn with a sportif twist in jersey marl fabrics and styled with a dropped crotch. Go on, take a chance, get those knees out and change up your summer time look this year.
