Working Out with Lee Elias

An afterwork workout session

Fashion forward gym wear has allowed for many to adopt workout ready garments, into their everyday look. Helping to create the athleisure trend that looks as good on the street as it does on the treadmill. We spent the afternoon after work with Re-bel Magazine’s commercial project editor Lee Elias as he treated a park in Hoxton as his gym.

“Athleisure isn’t a trend, it’s a lifestyle. I wear some of the garments underneath my work clothes such as the vest and leggings, it helps when I want to change quickly after work and go for a run.” Lee told us as he sips on a health smoothie purchased in London’s cool quarter of Hoxton, after a sprint in one of it’s many parks.

When asked how the athleisure look and garments fits into his overall regime he explains, ‘This look fits into my life very well its allows me to slip out of my office attire and into a comfortable t-shirt and joggers and go for a run during lunch and after work.’ He also goes on to explain the specific Primark outfit he wore, ‘I love the camo print top, it’s very on trend with an almost digitalised camouflage pattern that modernises instantly’. Lee also loves the practical aspects of the garments, ‘The technical fabric and well placed rivets allow for maximum breathability, helping to keep me cool so I'm not drenched after a run. This means that I don’t have to make excuses or feel embarrassed about sweaty encounters afterwards!’

When it comes to working out Lee prefers morning sessions prior to breakfast and after work training, ‘I think living in a big city means that you’re pushed for time. I try to wake up early and do a dozen sit ups followed by a dozen push ups. I’ve recently started running so I set myself targets such as 3k one day then 7k the next.’

With fashion, music, art and film taking up Lee’s work hours he likes to distract himself with other hobbies, ‘I’m fortunate to work in a job that means my passions are excised on a daily basis, I get to be around creative people and attend food reviews, film festivals, fashion shows and art openings. Switching off to me means getting lost in other activities as it’s easy to be consumed fully by culture, which could mean that your passions become a burden.’ Lee switches off by indulging in sports.  ‘I love playing tennis during the summer periods, call it the Wimbledon effect, I play for a five aside team with my cousins at our park usually two Sundays a month. I also love bowling too though I'm terrible at it!’
