Athletica: London Fashion Week
The mood for luxury sports-inspired apparel has been a consistent fixture on the trend scene for the few seasons solid. This season, however, we saw a significant shift away from literal head-to-toe looks, with a new focus placed on accessories as a vehicle to approach the trend in a much subtler way.
On the footwear front, trainers are always a clear-cut winner as the most obvious interpretation of sportswear. If you're looking to channel a less literal incarnation, look to cleated or stacked soles - preferably in contrasting colours or classic white.
Utilitarian backpacks, holdalls and bumbags will all transport your look into sports territory. To keep things on trend, think about side-stepping classic performance fabrics in lieu of PU leather, denim-effects and embellishment.
Mirrored sunglasses are an essential accessory for hikers and climbers in sun-drenched terrain, thanks to their ability to reflect the sun's rays. Adopt the look for yourself with style classics like aviators, wayfarers or retro-inspired circular shapes. Any bold and bright colour will work, with everything from yellow to purple favoured. At London Fashion Week, two-tone blue and green dominated.
