Day in the life: Hayley Rubery
With a devilishly tongue-in-cheek blog name, and equally jaw-dropping style, Hayley Rubery is big news across the blogosphere. Her bubbly personality, which never fails to permeate her digital penmanship, made us sure she'd be the perfect Primark fashion week muse.
Ever the professional, Hayley gave us the green light to shadow her shenanigans during fashion week, and we LOVED hanging out with the Essex babe. Check out what we got up to, plus Hayley's top tips and handbag essentials, below. Enjoy!
With LFW's new Soho setting evoking mixed emotions across the fash pack, we were keen to know Hayley's stance: "I'm not quite sold. It’s a really cool space, I just feel it’s a little inconvenient. It’s right on the main road and there isn’t anywhere to snap great street style. I’m rooting for them to bring back Somerset House next year as it’s the perfect venue for LFW!" With industry-wide approval of the decision to move to such a frantic part of town still hanging in the balance, Hayley's love of Somerset House is definitely reciprocated elsewhere.
Working in London and living in Essex must hail inevitable logistical issues, we asked the Frock Me I'm Famous blogger about a typical LFW day: "During London Fashion Week, my day starts with a mug of lemon green tea and some SKYN Iceland cooling eye gel pads, to help me wake up and feel refreshed. I’ll then sit down and work out my schedule for the day, have a quick look over my social media channels, check all the latest fashion-week related news, and then head to London."
With daily traveling and an organised nature a prerequisite, we were keen to know what goes into the blogging pro's fashion week prep: "Around 3-4 weeks before I’ll be browsing magazines, Pinterest, and checking my favourite high street brands. Then I’ll start to piece together my outfits, including accessories so I know what I’m wearing each day and it isn’t a last minute panic." A savvy outfit planner always gets out the door in time. We appreciate the lengthy process of careful sartorial selection.
So how did our brunette babe get her sass on and concoct her gorgeously seventies (not to mention, severely on-trend) look for the day? "I’ve been loving lightweight roll necks recently, they are the perfect item of clothing to transition into autumn. I picked up this beautiful wine-coloured one from Primark for £5! I loved the colour because it goes really well with my bag."
With the resurgence of all things fashionably retro, we have to agree with Hayley on the roll neck front. A staple of the seventies, in 2015 Pantone colour of the year? A sure winner. The cute dress also needs a mention... "I'm a huge fan of pinafore dresses right now. When I found this corduroy piece in store, I thought it would be perfect for fashion week, paired with my over-the-knee boots. These suedette beauties are a great investment for AW - they go with everything!"
What three saviours are always in your fashion week handbag?
1. Sunglasses. To hide a multitude of sins.
2. Portable phone charger. I’m forever running out of battery.
3. My Olympus PEN camera. I don’t go anywhere without it!
Sixty seconds, seven questions, one answer. Do you agree with Hayley's quick-fire responses?
Fashion Week flats or high fashion heels? Flats, all the way. There is too much running around to do for heels!
SS or AW season? AW. I love layering, and autumnal shades.
NYFW, LFW, MFW, or PFW? NYFW.
Bright and early (morning shows) or fashionably late (evening shows)? Morning shows.
Business breakfasts or post-show parties? Business breakfasts, to start the day right.
Trend watch: sidewalks or catwalks? Sidewalks.
Fashion Week survival top tip? Look after your body. Try to get a good night's sleep. Drinks lots of green juices and try to eat regularly in between shows. It’s so easy to get swept up in the day, and it’s 8pm before you know it!
