Tinashe: Style Secrets
Like with any good musician when one pops up it seems like it happened out of the blue, with refreshing energy and a unique take on music. That’s exactly the case with Tinashe. The artist’s smash hit ‘2on’ was crafted by one of the hottest producers of the moment, DJ Mustard and featured Atlanta rapper, SchoolBoy Q. The video has been viewed over a whopping 90 million times and showcases Tinashe’s dancing talent proving she’s an all round performer. Skills proved when the songstress set the stage on fire at our first American store launch in Boston.
You're quite an energetic performer, what’s your favourite thing about performing live?
My favourite thing about performing live is hearing fans from all over the world sing my lyrics back to me. When you are in Asia and two thousand fans are singing 2On, it becomes very clear how universal music has become.
How would you describe your personal style?
Moody. It really all depends on how I wake up in the morning. But on a day off, its all about ripped jeans a white tee and sneakers.
Who would you consider a style icon?
Coco Chanel. She is the epitome of style.
Now that you’ve toured and visited several different countries, What do you think makes American fashion so unique?
I’m not sure you can generalise American fashion anymore. I think fashion, as a whole, can’t be contained to one territory. Just like everything else, designers are pulling from all corners of the earth to find inspiration.
How important is fashion to your sound and how do you feel the two interlink?
Fashion and music are now, more then ever, uniquely intertwined. I was lucky enough to attend my first New York Fashion Week, and it was very eye opening to see what was on trend for the coming seasons. From textures, to colour palettes, all these details definitely play a part in how my sound develops.
How would you describe your style for tonight’s show?
Baggy pants and a cropped criss-crossed black top. Tonight I was in my comfort zone.
