Don’t ever accept something as 'the new black'. Black is the ONLY new black. For fans of the darkest shade, nothing will ever be as enduring, versatile, timeless, or easy to wear. The midnight tone is ready for anything, and keeps wearers on the right side of mysterious. This summer, we’re making the case for black-on-black, all season long. But, before you go all Morticia Addams on us, allow us to pass on a few tips…

There’s no such thing as too much black
Layer it up, wear it across apparel, footwear, and accessories, and even dabble in some black lippie or nail polish if you want to go all out. The head-to-toe, all black everything outfit says dedication, simplicity, and you only have to do one dark wash come laundry day!
Light layers will be your saviour
During the day, an all black ensemble will keep you looking svelte and chic, as well as keeping you warm (you know what they say: ‘black attracts the sun’.) But, the inevitable evening temperature drop can rumble any newbie black enthusiast, so don’t forget a light layer. Crocheted jackets, fringed waistcoats, kimonos or a linen blazer – if you prefer a tailored look – will keep you warm when the sun sets.

Texture, not print and pattern
If you’re thinking black is boring, firstly, we hope we’re slowly changing your mind, and secondly: it’s not. If you want to add something to ‘break up the colour’ (a phrase we black-wearers decline to use, FYI) then opt into texture over print or pattern. This season, crocheting is the best way to dive into texture, while ripped and raw-hem denim will keep you cool.
When colour is a ‘must’
If you ask us, we’d say the only complementary summer colours you need are azure seas and turquoise pools (aren’t we poetic?), but if you MUST add a splash of colour – that isn’t technically water – spruce up beach looks with colourful towels and bikinis with bright accents. You can also use jewellery and accessories as a vehicle on your journey to more colourful horizons – think gemstones, rose gold-tones, and embroidered or embellished handbags.
Ignore the rumours that you’ve been adopted by the Addams family and embrace this alternative summer look. We guarantee you’ll feel 100% too cool for school, and you’ll find your new uniform makes getting ready in the morning so much easier! You can thank us later, babes. Now come on – join the dark side!
