The Re:Mark: Winter Wonderings
I’m approaching winter this year with a distinct lack of readiness and to be perfectly honest, denial. I’m no further forward with my preparation that I was a month ago. I am yet to buy a new coat, I’m still living in my loafers with bare ankles, and I’m wearing my off the shoulder tops in abundance. The mild weather is simply encouraging me further. So what is it going to take to move me well and truly out of summer loving and into the dark days of winter? An excuse to go shopping perhaps?
In the world of fashion, a new season means only one thing – the perfect excuse to hit the shops. You simply MUST indulge in that new season coat, weather proof ankle boots, and knitwear for all occasions, right? Let’s not focus on the already bursting at the seams wardrobe I seem to have collected over the years. But hey, I don’t have anything for AW16 yet, plus who’s going to stop me?
There’s nothing more satisfying than new clothing goodness to put a smile on your face when you’re getting ready each morning. It’s funny how the freedom to wear ‘anything’ to work makes it harder than the school days when you simply had to throw on your uniform. The dress code choice then becomes endless and results in many a late arrival in the office…sorry Primark!
However, with uniform in mind, the great coat is definitely turning my head this winter. With its prominent military background influencing metallic buttons and embellishment, and floor length proportions allowing it to stand out from the crowd, it’ll be marching out of store in no time. I intend to team it with my ripped boyfriend jeans for dressed down weekend vibes, or wear with cropped, tailored trouser then button it up and cinch in at the waist for my office ready look.
I’m also slightly obsessed with longer line denim jackets at the moment. Following the trend for personalisation and customisation, the Primark buyers have out done themselves with hand painted options and multiple applique badge decorations. I couldn’t choose between to two so decided to get both, and they make the perfect layering item, worn under my camel crombie or navy blue, boiled wool wrap coat, nicely mixing up the textures and colourways.
Regular readers of The Re:Mark will know I’m a big fan of the never ending athleisure trend. Having already adopted this trend into my daywear attire, I feel it’s time to embrace it into my partywear wardrobe too. And with the padded jacket coming in a new wave of decadent fabrications from velvet to all-over sequins, it’s simply adding to my already out of control athleisure love affair.
And so, with my new outerwear options decided, at least I can tick something off my winter to do list. Next up, new boots, new bag, new jewellery, new lippie, new nail colour…too far?
