A Love Letter to Paris
Paris, Je t’aime!
My name is Megan Vlt, I'm 25 years old, I'm a blogger and YouTuber from Paris, and I'm a really lucky girl. Do you know why? Because I'm lucky enough to live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Wherever you are in the world, you just have to say the word "Paris" to make people smile. Everybody knows Paris and would love to go there at least once in their life. Living in Paris feels like seeing a picture postcard wherever you look, wherever you are!
The international capital of fashion, the home of most of the world's biggest designers. Capital of gastronomy, the envy of the whole world. Who hasn't heard of French cuisine? And I'm not talking about snails and frogs' legs, as not many French people actually eat those anyway. Capital of art and culture, with 139 museums, and just as many art galleries and temporary exhibitions. It's no surprise that it's the third most visited city in the world! In other words, Paris is a source of endless inspiration.
The funniest thing is that after living in Paris for years, I'm still finding amazing new little-known places every day! It's a city that's packed with unbelievable and totally different little nooks and crannies. Strolling through Paris you get the chance to explore dozens of different cities!
In the morning, when the sun rises over the famous landmarks, the light is always stunning. It's perched on top of Montmartre, near the Sacré Coeur, that it is at its most beautiful. It's not surprising that here you'll find plenty of traditional artists on their stools, constantly painting the landscape, without ever getting tired.
All you need to do is wander along a few cobbled lanes to find yourself in Pigalle, in the midst of a totally different city. And a short walk away you'll find the peaceful, well-to-do neighbourhoods of the Parc Monceau, the hustle and bustle of St Lazare, or the magic of Opéra. That's Paris for you. And it's also what frustrates visitors: it's impossible to see everything, however long you stay. And that's why I am so lucky: I know the many different faces of Paris, and I always know where to go depending on my mood and my state of mind!
If I had to tell you my favourite neighbourhood, I would say Etienne Marcel, right in the heart of Paris. Perfectly positioned between the Louvre, the Marais and the Grands Boulevards, I love wandering around there, with all the outdoor cafes, little restaurants and shops, and the mix of wide streets and narrow little alleys.
That's where my favourite restaurant is: Le Sinople, an unusual restaurant that's just a huge winter garden, where you eat in a greenhouse next to magnificent plants.
The Pompidou Centre is another of my favourite places: It's first and foremost a huge modern art museum, with some of the best exhibitions you'll find in Europe. But the best thing is to go up to the roof, where there is a huge rooftop terrace with a bar and gourmet restaurant with a 360° view of the whole of Paris!
On a summer evening, I'd like everybody to experience the joy of a picnic with friends on the banks of the Seine, just once in their life. The hustle and bustle of the city nearby seems to have been put on hold. The coolness of the Seine, the peace and tranquility is frequently disturbed by a barge with its giant spotlights, lighting up the buildings along the banks of the river, with a guitarist serenading you from a distance every so often.
Last but not least, to finish off the perfect day, nothing beats letting your hair down at one of Paris's 170 nightclubs. From the top of a barge to the depths of the Paris underground, there is something for everyone here.
