The Re:Mark: New Season Shake Up
Is it just me or has autumn/winter snuck up suddenly without any given warning? Here in London we’ve being treated to some exceptionally sunny September days, so much so that I'm in complete denial that frosty mornings are upon us. Help!
Having only recently indulged in my summer holidays (to Morocco and Mallorca, if you’re looking for inspiration) and then arrived home to beautiful sunny days, I've only just started wearing my summer wardrobe, so I’d be lying if I said I was ready to embrace winter knits and great coats.
That being said, I’m a sucker for buying a new coat each season and as any of my friends will tell you, my outerwear wardrobe far outweighs my everyday offerings. But hey, the coat is the making of an outfit, no? Or is it that the perfect coat can hide a multitude of sins – well it’s definitely one of the two!
One trend that I am prepared to get behind this AW16 is Dandy Romance. This eclectic, granny-chic vibe has been bubbling under for a few seasons now, both on the catwalks and the high street, and now you can find it in your local Primark. From clashing prints and textures to surprising colourway combinations you quite literally can’t go wrong with this one. I have my eyes on those plisse pussy bow blouses and berry tone tailored trousers. Très chic!
Now, if you haven’t already noticed from reading this column, I am an avid traveller. The aforementioned holiday destinations were both visited within the space of ten days – need I say more.
So it is with great pleasure I introduce our My City, My Story campaign which you will have seen taking over Primark.com. We all have a special connection with our hometown, but there are also those foreign cities that will forever hold a place in your heart. Two of my personal favourites would have to be Paris and New York, but I encourage you to follow some of our favourite bloggers and indulge in their Love Letters to their home cities. However I warn you – it will make you want to book a plane ticket immediately. No bad thing if you ask me.
As the womenswear fashion weeks continue and the fash pack look to spring/summer 17, it can be easy to get swept away by the coming seasons, so much so that you forget to enjoy the current season you’re in. My advice to you all, start thinking of your new autumn/winter wardrobe. Buy into a new trend that makes your heart race and look forward to those cold winter mornings standing at the bus stop, after all your knitted tube dress, longer-line bomber jacket, and bobble hat will keep you warm. Failing that, head straight to the nearest airport and chase the sun all the way through to Christmas – I’ll be right behind you!
If you need any further inspiration of how to update your wardrobe for the new autumn/winter season, look no further than textured knits, your favourite jeans and stock up on your fav staples for some layering magic. Check out our men's and women's AW16 check lists below. Til next week...!
