1. Do one thing in the morning before you look at your phone
Whether that’s having a positive thought, writing something down, or doing something that wakes your brain up before you switch on to social media. I think that’s really important.
2. Read something
We spend our lives being consumed by current events in the news and it can be quite stressful, and we live our lives at a million miles an hour through social media, so escaping reality and reading a book or listening to audio books is a great way to relax and unwind.
3. Set yourself some achievable goals
I think having a goal in place that you want to achieve is a really nice way to focus your mentality at the start of the year. Writing those down and putting them on your wall, or having them in a journal would be something that I definitely advise.
4. Speaking of journals – start a journal
Write down how you’re feeling every day. So often we don’t vocalise how we feel, we don’t talk about things like mental health, or stress and actually the more we speak about it the more it will become an acceptable conversation. It’s alright to not feel ok every day and we shouldn’t be embarrassed to say that. Start by documenting your feelings at the end of each day, and if you felt really rubbish one day, write down a few reasons as to why that might have been, what happened to lead you to not feel great, and then look at steps you could put in place to avoid it happening next time.
5. Try something new
Just try your hand at something different and you’ll see it open up to loads of new things. I’ve just started boxing and it has opened me up to a whole new circle of people I wouldn’t normally have access to. So try a new skill, step out of your comfort zone and meet new people.
